Got to try out my Golden

SkiWhiz

Active member
I went into town to try out my new to me Golden

Sounds like a great success story for a first outing, Ski!

I think you'll do very well with the Golden.
HH

Good to hear that you had a great start with the Golden and made some nice recoveries.

Yea, I'll be glad when my gets back from Tesoro. My ground balance was just about spot on when i checked it before sending it in. Hopefully it will return with the ground balance the same. If not, well I guess I will do the same as you mentioned and correct it. The two middle tones are hard for me to separate but the high tone for dimes and such was a definite response that you knew what range the target was in.

Congrats Steve! It sounds like the Golden is treating you well. Keep up the good work. I know you will be finding lots of good stuff soon, Beale.

SkiWiz.... Glad you got that Golden in! You did pretty good with your first hunt :clapping: Nice haul. I think you will enjoy the Golden. I went for a hunt this morning with 3 of my detecting buds but I didn't do as well as you did. Pretty slim pickings at the old Park we went to. Thanks for the post and update on your new detector. Keep em coming! HH TonyTX :) :tesoro:

do you mean your hearing? My low frequency hearing is where I have problems. I usually use the Troy headphones.
Pap

Keep in mind, there are SIX tones with the Golden: the 4 normal ones, the double beep of shallow targets and the rolling scale tones of iron.
This last one can save you a lot of iron digging once you get to understand it.

The subtlety is in the way the tones work together. This is vastly different than montone or even other multitone units. In the beginning, dig all signals that repeat in at least on direction. Be especially mindful of that rolling, "fluty" iron tone.

The tones on the Timberwolfs are higher to me since I lost my hearing and might even be better for you. I use the Troys on all the rest of my machines. If you get a chance try them out. :D: :D: HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

14 coins and a necklace in 1/2 hour is a great strike rate Steve WTG mate !

Sounds like a great machine...

That is the one I use most. I will PM you and give you some info on the golden and some info on the Notch width knob and some on the different tones. There are more then 6. I don't want to get in a discussion about it. Unless you use the Golden a lot you will never notice them. Nobody ever belives anything i ever say anyway so I will just leave it at that. :D: :D: Later Pap. HH Jerry aka tinfoil

I've been using Timberwolf Lobo headphones on all my detectors since right after they came out. I've tried a lot of others, liked the Troy Pro phones a lot, but none of them suited my hearing as well as the Lobo's with the limiter activated. Noticed the Lobo's are $40 cheaper now than they were when I bought mine:(. You're right about the Golden having more than 6 tones. On some targets if gives a mix of two consectutive tones, which makes 7 but on some targets it can mix any of the three lower tones with the high coin tone, or maybe throw in another of the tones for a three tone mix. I didn't like it at first but after I used it enough to begin to understand what it was saying I really like the Golden's audio. By the way, Scott and I called off the deal on my Golden so I'll be keeping it awhile longer:).

I blew my Golden up about a year ago and I sent it back a number of times and they never could get it fixed right. I even sent it over to Texas and Ed worked on it and got it better then it was. Finally I just decided to get rid of it. I sent it back to Tesoro one more time to be worked on and tuned up so I could say it was OK before I sold it. I had it super tuned, Juiced up, before years ago on a few coils I had and it always performed with more deppth then it had ever had when it was new. I got real spoiled with it. Soon as I bought a wide scan coil and put it on, my sweet little Golden blew up after about 1 hour and a half hunting with that widescan on. Blew out the whole PC board. Well it had never been right since then. So one more time I thought I would sent it back, let them go threw it and say it was a good one so I could sell it. This time I did the right thing and called Rusty. I told him the whole story and how it got me some real deep targets before and how I could get all the different tones and how great the little machine always performed before and how lousy it was doing now. He said don't worry I will get it back like it used to be. Well let me tell you right now, it is just as a deep as it ever was. I was going to sell it but, now it ain't going anywhere. It is just like having a friend that was sick for a long time and never giving up hoping one day it would get well and we would be back hunting again. Well she is well and we are back hunting and she ain't going anywhere. There just ain't anything like it when you got a good friend to hunt with and trust what it is telling you. I bought my Golden when they first came out. It has always been one fine machine and I have a hell of a lot of time on it. I called Rusty Personally and really thanked him for fixing my Golden MM and how much I really appreciated it. He really went out of his way to make my little machine perform like it used to and I thanked him very much for it. Ok just a little story for some of you. I have $1000 machines that I don't think as much of as I do my little Golden MM. :inlove: . Rusty and Thanks again. I am glad you got to keep your Golden MM JB. :D: :D: HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

Tinfoil, that was cool! I enjoyed reading about your affair with the little ol' Golden :) They are pretty neat machines if I say so myself! HH TonyTX

as I mentioned before. The notch calibration was off and I thought if I'm going to learn the machine I wanted it right. Really sounds like Rusty made your Golden super right.
sounds good to me I'll look for the PM from you and Ronnie. I take it you prefer the headphone with the limiter...what coil are you using?
Pap

My hearing is so bad I have too. I hunt with the 4", 5.75", and 8x9" coil. When I sent it back and talked to Rusty I sent all my coils and asked him to tune it to the 5.75" coil inbetween coil. It does great on all three of the coils though. My G/B is set to 0 and it preforms better down here then set to pos. When you start trying to set it to pos. in this salt salinty area I am in the performance drops. so when I go to all metal and lower my coil to the ground I get no change and it sure gives me the extra depth for the coils. some places you can run a little POS. (very little pos though) G/B but not here. :D: :D: Hope you got my PM. Later HH Jerry aka Tinfoil

thanks for the help. I'll give Ronnie a call. I only sent the 9x8 back with the Golden. The GB with the seven inch coil is just slightly less positive than the 9x8 which isn't all that positive either. We'll see when it returns home how it is. Hopefully they (Tesoro) won't touch the GB.
