Got to Texas

Rob (IL)

New member
I've gotten to Texas with the new MXT. I haven't gotten out much and can't until next week. I checked out a soccor field. The soil reads in the 50's. I used to use an analog whites. I found some clad coins and am looking for the first nickel.
The threshold is a little sputtery and I can't pinpoint as well as with the old detector. The soil has rocks which makes a probe ineffective.
I have found that I can get a solid penny full bar at 3 inches reading only to find a chopped up can which is deeper. Nickels and square tabs both read 20. I'll start the learning process next week.

What about rings? Do you just have to dig all tabs?
Rob

To find gold rings you'll probably have to dig a lot of pull tabs. Silver rings will read in the upper part of the scale. Depending on size of course. The MXT with the stock 950 or the 5.3 coil pinpoints very accurately. I don't own a DD coil yet but I believe with practise you should be able to pinpoint fairly well with those also. Although with a ground phase reading in the 50's a concentric coil will do just fine. The sputtery threshold doesn't bother me. Mine is more stable in relic mode. Happy hunting.

well I'm in the Rio Grande Valley now. Things have changed, the ground here measures 83. Places to hunt are hard to find. The school yards have fences that are locked after hours. I haven't found but one park that hasn't produced much but pennies. I'm here for 7 weeks and need to find a few sites to hunt,Oh well. Rob
