Got to Start Learning all over again

I hope it isn't too difficult to go from the Sovereign Gt to the Excalibur II. I have a new one in route to me and anxiously awaiting its arrival. I had purchased custom made knives from one of the premier knife makers many years ago (now deceased) and I decided that I wanted an Xcal much more than I wanted the knives. So I converted knives into an Xcal. I was afraid to get my GT in the water as I could just imagine tripping and dunking it in the ocean. Goodby GT if I did that. So now I will have the GT for everything but the water.

I agree with Ron. Your bigger difference is swinging a detector in the water and retrieving targets from the water. Have patience and you will do well.

Ordered Excal Monday afternoon and it arrived this afternoon. Now for a little water/sand fishing.

GeorgeinSC,Save a few of those Charleston Coins for me. I didn't score to well the last trip in your area. But went back to the spot I found in May 2013-goldnugget-Charlotte,N.C.

I took the Xcal out to my yard this morning and tested it on a variety of coins. I could not believe the difference in tones between the GT and the Xcal. It might be the difference in headphones but I could not distinguish much difference between a zinc lincoln and a quarter with the Xcal and with the GT there is a big difference in tones. Also the tones of the Xcal seem to be shorter than the GT. Yep I am going to have to learn tones again. I think Minelab short changed the Xcal when it comes to headphones.

Now to go get in the water and see what has been lost that I can rescue.

yep its the headphones mostly. thats one of the reasons you see so many doing the headphone modifications.
headphone mod and switching over to the straight rod are two very popular excal mods.
look up some of Oldbeechnuts posts, he does those headphone mods.

I suspected that it was the headphones. I use Killer B II headphones with my Gt and there is a great deal of difference. Both in tonal quality and comfort. I am 6' 2" tall and I find the standard length of shaft to be just a little on the short side.

I recently got new hearing aids and the audiologist made a setting in them that I can switch to that allows one to hear music better and that setting is great for the GT. I can hear the tones much better than I could with my old hearing aids.
