Well fellers'...today was a sad day in Mudville.

I took my girlfriend's daughter metal detecting for the first time....and got my buttocks kicked.:crylol:

It was pretty cool that she actually asked me to take her...because she isn't into that kind of stuff...BUT she might be now.

She had a wonderful time and a big smile on her face the entire time.

I thought about ordering her an ace 250 but decided to let her try Dad's XLT instead.

It was a little heavy for her...and she had to use both hands to swing it at times...but she did fine.

I took her to a little concession area that replentishes itself with coins about once a week...so I was hoping she would find some clad...and she sure did.

I told her to watch the numbers on the xlt...and if they said 70 or above...start digging.

I also told her if that baby said 85 or 86...it was gonna' be a quarter...and she liked that easy explanation.

Anyway she didn't walk 3 feet and I heard her say "86...86":bouncy:

She set the detector down and I showed her how to use the probe.

She was a natural...got a big smile on her face...and started wiggling the probe like a pro....with the help of my buddy Hercules.

The look on her face when she popped out her first ever coin...the clad quarter... was priceless.

She didn't stop there though...and in fact dug 6 coins before I even got a freakin' signal.:smoke:

I kept hearing "86...86"...."I got another quarter".:)

I was thrilled for her...but after 20 minutes of getting punked by a 10 year old...I was starting to get irritated.:punch:

Finally I got a screamer on my SE and said to her "Hey I got one".:)

Her response?..."Oh...you finally found something huh"?:clapping:

She came over to watch me dig...almost like she felt sorry because I hadn't found anything yet.

Well fellers...'''here's my "quarter"...

She looked at me and said..."That's not a quarter...thats a dumb old rusty bolt":detecting:

My response..."Shut up...ya' little jerk.:bouncy:

She thought it was funny enough that she needed to take a picture of me with my prize.

Well...to make a long story short...after 45 minutes she had 5 quarters...3 dimes...and 2 pennies.:clapping:

My 45 minute total...one quarter and a bolt.:smoke:

I figured it was about time to put my tail between my legs...and do the walk of shame back to the car.

She let me have it all the way home.:)

When we got back home she went inside...goes running to her mom with a big smile and says... "Mom look at all I found...I got 5 quarters...3 dimes...and 2 pennies...and all Bryce got was 1 quarter and a dumb rusty thing":clapping: :beers:

True...I was only looking for deep coins...and not bothering to mess with clad...but the fact is that she hammered me on the finds...and was quite proud of it to say the least.:please:

I'd like to say what I usually do at the end of my posts... "thanks for sharing this with me fellers'"....and I'll say it...but I don't really mean it.

Well.. Yea....what's your point Bryce........... Your little outing today just may change her life one day when other 14 - 15 year old girls and boys are looking for something new to try and do to pass the time, she might already have a sense of direction because of you and the time you spent with her............. I hope she whups you often.....:clapping:

Oh.. but that is a very nice looking rusty bolt! I don't know.. that "I was only looking for deep coins...and not bothering to mess with clad" is a little weak.:lmfao: Congratulations(?) on the nice(?) finds. Sounds like a good time was had by all and you introduced this great hobby in a most positive way. Great story and pictures. Thanks!

Bryce, you're losing your touch!! :heh: Has your "back end" stopped aching from your long Harley ride yet? :stretcher:

Yeah, I know you ignore those shallow clads...me too, but I make sure I dig all quarter hits!!

That was a fun read, and it sure looks like you got a young one interested in a fantastic hobby. I wonder if she'll ever be as addicted as you and I are to this hobby? Nah, I doubt it...she'll probably have a normal interest, not requiring constant "silver" fixes!

Thanks for sharing, my friend!!

or you'll really be hurting......:surrender: May not want to take her again. Good job spreading the frenzy.

Just kidding of course and nice story as it brought back memories of my blond daughter who is now 40...We all know an XLT does well for those shallow clad but Explorers go deep for those nice silvers..Thanks for the memories ought to cover it....Dan

Great story Bryce and good pictures as well.
Sometimes a little "humble-pie" does the spirit
good and a 10 year old serving it.......PRICELESS!!
Thanks for sharing...... Gold Nuggets :wiggle:

Good times, she's hooked for sure!

Great story Bryce, if she gets to cocky bring her over and let her hunt my park

Funny story and wonderful pictures. If she learns to find silver like that you might want to leave her at home:biggrin:
You brought another future prospect into the hobby which is a good thing.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself bud:detecting: ...Letting that little lady whoop ya like that. Good job on bringing in another hunter to the hobby. She'll be back...you can tell by the look on her face.
