since I think they are what Garrett should have evolved into. But they didn't and now it's too late.
I think you would like the Xterra 70, Elvis.
For one, just being able to actually cancel out your ground response will make a big difference. Presets aren't really balanced to anything but work ok in a certain range of ground conditions. But you will notice a difference when you can actually balance the detector to the ground. The deeper and smaller signals will respond better. The Xterra 70 has 4 different methods to ground balance; manual, computer assisted manual, auto tracking, and a beach mode for cancelling out conductive salt.
Next thing you would like is the Target id in pinpoint mode. I like that feature, especially when toward the end of my time out and I get a bit fast with my sweep which causes the iron to false more. For the iffy's I can just do a quick pinpoint and check the number and pass the iron by.
You will notice right away that the notch segments are arranged much better than the Garrett. You get a nice 5 segment foil range, a wide 10 segment mid range, bounded by a nickel segment on the bottom and a zinc segment on top, and a 7 segment high coin range. Much better spread than the Garretts. That last segment is mostly iron wrap.
Tones...well...you get used to them. Digital you know, and sound like some toys you may have run across. But Tone ID is Tone ID and you have some choices to choose from which is nice.
Stay away from the 3kHz coils. The thought behind them was nice but ineffective. You want to get the 5x10 DD HF coil and the 10.5" round DD MF coil. I don't think you have ever used a DD coil and once you start using them you may never go back to a standard size concentric.
I really like the Xterra 70. Let me know if I can talk you into a F-75 cause I really like that one, too.
Good luck!
Mike
