Got the F4

Firstly, thank you to all who unselfishly gave your views and ideas on the various Series F detectors I enquired about. At first I asked about the F70 and the F5, then about the F5 and the F4. I decided to go with the F4 for a couple of reasons. Firstly, I have never had or used a Fisher detector before (although I do have other brands). I wanted something that was relatively simple to use, but could be ground balanced manually and was a bit different to my other detectors. I decided to go for the low range of the series, because I didn't have a whole lot of loot to spend on a machine that I mightn't like. Additionally, I already had 4 BH concentric coils, ranging from 4" to 10" that I can use on the F4. Well, it arrived about a week ago, and it is different to all my other machines, and I like it as well. have not used it much, but so far it has performed as well as I'd hoped. The 11" DD coil is great...I dont have anything like it and it covers the ground so well...very sensitive and I was surprised at the depth. Probably more pleased than surprised. Anyway, thanks again to all of you (You know who you are!) who helped me with my enquiries....looking forward to posting something good in the future. HH Sapper.

Sapper glad you picked up the F4, I think you'll really like it. The 11" DD is a GREAT coil, covers a lot of ground, great depth and it's very sensitive. If you get into an area loaded with bottle caps that the 11" DD is IDing as quarters, swap to the BH 10" concentric - problem solved. The 10" is another great coil on that machine, super light, great TID and depth and no more bottle cap issues. The F4 is lightening fast and super light, you'll find a lot of goodies with it.

Let us know what your finding.

Brian

Glad you got the F4, I am very happy with mine. See my latest entry after having used it the last several months at"F4 or F5" querry, to hear my opinion on its performance and using it. Im about to post photos of a British Victoria base half cent (185?) I found with it. I found also two different Civil war tokens, see one photo at recent "My New F4 Did great near Cellar Hole" posting along with other large cents etc. I just found a nice large solid silver ring with 8 large saphires in it also. It really offers a lot. I dont know if others have experienced this, but sometimes when I go to pinpoint it acts as if theres nothing there. What i do is hit the pinpoint button again, and it kicks in as if it woke up. Youll hear it humming etc, if it doesnt react then, then there probably really isnt something there, but just make sure the pinpointer is electronically engaged. Good Luck, it is easy to use, and with practice you'll see if can do an awful lot when you learn to hear what its telling you. I like the all metal mode for sizing an object, once you've located it with the discriminator.

osgood, you might be hitting the pinpoint button too close to the target. Try moving to the side a couple of inches before hitting pinpoint. On my F4 it would do this too if too close.
