Went to a local lake Sunday for about 4 hours with the new Excal II. I had a blast, I spent most of the time just comparing what I was hearing to what was written in CJC's book. Conclusion... I need a lot more practice
Never dug a cap, they were easy to tell by the way they would cut in or out in reference to ground. I did dig a few pull tabs though, I am still afraid to pass on anything in that tone range since I am not good enough to hear the rough ramping up and back down of the signal yet. I learned to keep a nickel in my pocket to use as a "tone reference" though, to many times I was digging signals that were just way to high, I am looking for jewelry, not coins. The machine worked flawlessly, and was a pleasure to use. I was in fresh water, running Disc and PP just playing with it, Sens at 12:00, Thresh barely audible, Volume 3/4, Disc 0. I went to this beach the 4th of July to renew my permit, and what I found was disappointing, all of the folks were younger, and no "bling". Unfortunately it is about the only place around here to get any wet practice, and I desperately needed to practice pin pointing when I couldn't see the coil. I will be heading to Destin on the 23rd for a week.... HH Joe
