Got the 6" coil for the EQ 600

well its a mixed out come the 6" coil in my glacial sand reads the 8" dime as iron nver gives a high tone the 11" coil easaly hits it every time with a high tone , but in the gravel road the small coil gets the 6" copper nugget better than the 11 " coil maybe because it hits harder on small targets in its range. nice and light and i did see some improvment in seperation

Gunnar, what are your settings with the 6” coil ?

Smaller coils are better for smaller-size targets, yes, and also shallower-located targets as well. I would not expect a 6" DD to hit well on an 8" deep Dime. Think about it ... that's a 33⅓% increase in depth over the coil diameter. To be fair, with the 11" DD coil, bury the Dime at 14.663 Inches and test it.

Also, keep your Iron Bias at a low setting. You'll have better separation with the 6" DD as long as your Iron Bias is set low and your Recovery Speed is set for better behavior in a cluttered area.

I have a clad dime on the side of my shed at 8”.
I used Park1, sensitivity 22, F2-0, recovery 4
And smacked the dime with no problems with tone and TID.
For me, I find that a slow recovery speed (recovery of 4 or slower) and slow sweep speed is extremely crucial with this small coil.
Same question. My 6" coil hits my 9" dime in my coin garden with tone plus VDI, and Texas clay is not friendly.

Thanks Monte, actually to hit this dime in this anoka glacial sand is a good thing , if i push a magnet thru this sand it starts to load up with what looks like iron filings, and the 6" DD hits the 6" dime better than the Racer small coil , but i did see Calabash digger hitting a 9 " dime pretty good in his dirt , but he claims it is low in iron , Jim, you must have some mild soil if you are hitting a dime that deep

And Jim thats why test coins in ground are so important, your swing speed is very important, it can make the diffrence of hitting that coin or not

settings with 6 " coil park 1 , gain-22 0 iron bias- 5 tones - multi frequincy sweep speed of 3 on the 600

Monte the math makes sense but does it . In the last 5 years I use small coils 95% of the time and dig coins to 8 inches all the time with the 6 inch coil and once in a while to 9 inches these are targets in the wild my soil is low to medium mineralization.

The 6 inch head in a air test well hit a dime at 10 inches or deeper . Now if we use the 11 inch head in a air test we would have to see 20 inches .Now let's use a silver dollar instead of the dime it's a better target for the 11 inch head 17 inches max good signal the 6 well get 13 inches now these air test really mean nothing but as you can see the 6 beats the 11 per size .
I well be the first to say I don't know what's going on but in the real world wild targets in the dirt the 6 is very likely to hit a 8 inch dime and I have done it quite consistently now if I am using the 11 inch head I should be hitting dimes at 12 inches I can count the # of dimes on 2 fingers I have found .

There's other things going on here my guess is the 6 has a tighter field there by using all that power in a more concentrated area the 11 has a less dense field .
What I guess is that the 11 to get that 12 inch dime has more dirt to deal with over the target compared to the 6 on a 8 inch dime .
One other point is a pin pointer has a 1 inch coil but easily gets 3 inches this isn't using disc but it is a small coil are small coils just more effective for size don't know . Big coils go deeper but how many 11 inch coins do you find with the 11 inch head compared to the 6 finding 7 and 8 inch coins I covered a lot of ground in the last 50 years using both coils and as I said where are the 11 inch deep coins with the 11 inch coil it may well be the extra dirt that coil has to see through that's killing it's depth . sube

Try this: drop your recovery to 2 and try your tests again with a slow sweep speed

settings with 6 " coil park 1 , gain-22 0 iron bias- 5 tones - multi frequincy sweep speed of 3 on the 600

Jim i tried 2 sweep and it did not get the dime as good as 3 I dont know why but yes i tried that ,,I normally dont like the 3 sweep speed but in my test it worked better ,Rebuttle?

I think monte lives on the west coast and the soil in his area is mineralized . I think?

the faster recovery might be working better for you because you have highly mineralized soil. Good that you are adjusting controls and trying different settings. This is the ultimate key to unlocking the best settings for your location. Keep up the great work Gunnar!

I was up on nails hill all square nails, and you know they false with nice high tones but as i dug them up one thing stood out they all make a bllleep bllleeptwo tone like sound a real high conductor does not

I’m picking up what you are saying Gunnar. You are learning quickly grasshopper.

Same settings as mine except I run 50 tones, and use recovery speed of 2 many times in hunted out spots. I admit...in my deep garden coin practice, I run RS=2 a lot. I also own an Equinox 800 too, and my prime recovery speed setting on the 800 is 5. That equals 2.5 on the 600 if it existed.

To add, I never ground balance at all in Multi mode frequency, only with single frequencies. Just be sure that you 600 is running stable at whatever sensitivity setting you decide on. Mine works well at 22, but there are times and places where I drop down to 20 with the 600. Even lower with the 800.

All this made me realize that my physical cadence and swing with the 6" coil is generally like the 11" coil. I can't remember literally slowing down intentionally, unless it's automatic.

Hope this helps
