Got that Tombstone!

Well part of it anyway...and dug a tremendous amount of junk, lots of shotgun shells, tabs, a few coins, most interesting thing was a steel flat small chain, that registered a 42 scratchy signal, just like a gold one of that size would have sounded like, so that made me happy, even if it wasnt gold...its to the right of that aluminum grommet at the bottom of the stone.[attachment 290792 stone.jpg]

Heres a pic of where I was hunting today...really nice cut exposed a lot of old wood. old targets and whatnot, just nothing gold or silver...so sometimes a guy can have a great time hunting, and not really find anything, as was my case today.[attachment 290794 stone1.jpg]

You will probably find out tonite, after you turn out the lights and try to sleep.:goodnight:

If you have any issues, you know what to do!

Ha! I used to be a gravedigger...the old school kind, with a pick, shovel and wheelbarrow, back in Minnesota in the early 80's...so I have spent a lot of time in graveyards, got a jump on most people in that respect..I am at peace with most ghosts, and I bet this one might just lead me to a GOLD COIN is what I'm thinking, I've been dreaming about one, and I KNOW its in the water of this old lake..Who tossed this stone out in the Lake I wonder? Who was this person I also wonder...I dont sleep much, and when I do, I dream about detecting!! I may have a problem, but its not with ghosts!

That's cool! And it looks like a cool place to hunt. What state are you in? Do you actually hunt IN the water most times?

Thanks dgruff!

I'm in West Michigan, during the season, May on through to ice up, I spend a good portion hunting in the water and on the beach, with the Pro...I also hunt pretty hard on the dirt too, sportsfields etc. for clad and jewelry, with an alternate rig....I generally just pay attention to the weather, sort of plan where I'm gonna go, and see what the day brings...I am generally up and gone before the dawn, get in a few hours, and then go to work to try to make some real money!

So I have yet to dig my first gold anything. You said " most interesting thing was a steel flat small chain, that registered a 42 scratchy signal, just like a gold one of that size would have sounded like" So gold will have a scratching sound?. I spose you were wearing head phones to hear that scratchy sound? Was this chain in dry, or wet conditions. How furious is the soil you were in? Is it just chains you hear that are scratchy?

AtPro HAMMERS all gold...including chains, and yes they are not what a "good" signal sounds like...long, like a piece of wire, or junk...got this little 15gr 10k last May in the water with the Pro, 42ish signal .[attachment 290802 may52013.jpg]

And got this monster 74.5gr 24k in Sept. also with the Pro...sounded like a couple of pulltabs, or a stainless steel piece of wire or strapping or something...60 ish...in the dark, no light or moon, really dark morning...[attachment 290804 sept813-3.jpg][attachment 290805 sept813-5.jpg] Had it tested several times and its a 24k alright...first guy tried to rip me off!

Yes, chains are not as common as rings, and are often overlooked, since they sound like junk...got this big 14k with a different rig (F70) up on the dry right after I started detecting 4yrs ago...I really hunt chains, I leave the house thinking about them, and listen for those signals...which are generally junk!...still, 3 big chains within 10 miles of my house is not bad I think...[attachment 290808 gold.jpg]

What can one say, except now after showing your pic's of the wheel and tombstone to my wife, she wants one, too. She has more bushes, shrubs and flowers then I can mow around and now she wants to start a rock garden. And I thought we were friends. Yeah! HH jim tn

Interesting finds, Mud! Nice yard, too! I love NM, but sometimes miss the misty greenness of some of my other stops along the way. Watch out for those Little Debbie snacks, looks like you found a whole truckload of 'em.

William-NM...you started it! When I see all the pics of the BIG Heavy you haul off, I didnt want to disappoint!

Jim tn...to guys that hate yardwork, and have better things to do, rock gardens are the ticket! You dont have to mow them! Double plus good!:beers:

Sounds like a good deal, Mud. However, getting the rocks for one sounds worse then mowing. And I only know of one type of place that has tombstones. HH jim tn

Wow, those chains are awesome! And did you make that scoop, or buy it? Also, when you say you are hunting a lake, is it one of the Great Lakes?

Good Lord! Those chains are awesome! To Hell with those silver coins, give me the gold.
