Got some silver Thursday...

It was a nice day so I took a vacation day to get a couple of things done; one being going back to the park where I found the 2 mercs last weekend  After hunting for about 30 minutes, I was asked to leave by a park employee. There were a couple of guys flying remote control planes way on the opposite side of the field where I was hunting. Seems it's a liability thing. (someone got hit by one last year) Oh well, so it was off to another park.

Got two Washingtons for my efforts... I knew the '47 had to be silver. Sounded real good and it was near a tree buried about 5 or 6" under some big roots. I had to do some tunneling to get to it, but eventually I was able to reach it. (sure wish I could have used an axe :) )

After hitting some clad here and there, I started hunting an out of the way spot with not as much trash. After hitting a shallow wheatie, I decided to do a good search of the area. Found the '42 only about 1" down, if that. It's not in as good a shape as the other but silver is a rare thing so I'll take it... Also hit two other no date wheaties and some clad. What a pleasure to finally be able to hunt without a jacket on!

It's taken me a while, but I think I have a much better hang of this machine :) This is fun!

like success ! WTG Joe - silver is, indeed, becoming harder to find. Sounds like you could go back to the first place when no ones flying there. Steve in so az

Thanks Phil...The funny thing is I AM getting it (finally :) )I changed to using Audio 1 and re-adjusted my thinking about IM and sensitivity in different conditions...just trying different things. I've also been using the Platypus the last couple of times out and I think it's made working in the trash a bit easier. The target "window" for the 2 merc's I got last week was really small (doing the Minelab wiggle :) )and there were numerous other targets around it. I couldn't pinpoint. But there was just enough of a hint of silver coming through to make me go for it. Once I knew what that sounded like, the 2nd one was easier. I knew I had another silver :) Can't wait to hit that place again.

The park guy was very apologetic... He said, "you're welcome to come back any time, just not when the guys are here with the planes." My guess is that it's a weekday thing. I doubt they close off the area on the weekend. Of course, the next time I go back it'll be really early in the morning so I'm sure there won't be a problem.

You have to see the size of the two grandstands there. Holds well over a hundred people and big enough to walk under and hunt! I was just about to hit it with the CZ20 and the small coil when I got kicked out :(

What detector are you using? I switched to an MXT this year and tried it out yesterday for the first time. Am happy with it.

I've been using an ExpII for about 10 months now. I've been doing "OK" with it, but in the last two weeks the light bulb went off and now I'm picking up stuff I would have missed. I got in about 15 minutes this afternoon. It was beautiful out when I left but no sooner did I get there the sky darkened and there was a torrential downpour.

Managed a couple of coins in that time and a deep '46 wheatie. I've hunted this particular place to death but now I can't wait to do it over again. I know there's silver to be had :)

Your on fire! Keep up the streak! :)
