Got some much need rain. :garrett:

Had a nice soaking rain yesterday, of which, re-opened some old hunting grounds. Hit our old fairgrounds this morning for a couple of hours. Although it has gotten frugal, there is so much decaying iron and trash in general that it will never be hunted entirely out. It also is not kind to coins with all its iron, gravel and broken up asphalt. Most silver comes out black and is very tough to clean up.

Anyway, the A T with the NEL Sharpshooter coil managed to sniff out 3 old coins. The first I hit was a toasted n/d Buffalo, then got the 1916 Barber dime and as I was just about to shut down the A T, got a high 70's-80 reading with decent tone showing 4". Upon locating it in the clod with my pin pointer I saw a thin silver edge. It is near paper thin, but suspect it is a Mercury dime as I can see the outline of the Fasces/Scepter on the rev. side. Along the way, I recovered the Republican ear ring. Not silver!

It was fun getting back out on some old ground. With the dry conditions my hunting buddy and I have stayed off our area parks for most of the summer and have been hunting a demoed housing site. It didn't have the age for any really old coins, but it has yielded me 50+ silver Rosies, 4-5 Mercury dimes and 6 or so Silver Washington quarters and 1 64 Kennedy half, along with some pieces of silver jewelry. Some of the silvers were located with my F 75 fyi.

Hope everyone has a good digging weekend. HH jim tn

Some really nice finds there Jim. Having a little moisture soaking in the ground sure helps in making the finds. I usually find that about 3 days after a good rain is when the finds are best for me in my area. Again...nice finds...good work!

Nice finds Jim! You may want to try out the south side of the fairgrounds which used to be part of the Coliseum parking lot. I've found some Mercs and Indians, as well as a paslode of Wheats when I was getting familiar with the Deus. My Fisher CZ-5 also sniffed out some silver and occasional jewelry near Hole #1 basket area of the DG course. Hole #15 teepad gave up seven silvers, a couple V nickels, and lots of Wheats as well. I won't be getting back to that part of the country for the forseeable future...focusing on buying a house!

Good luck with the winter season!

Hey Taylor, how goes it?

Been hunting the south end some, but finding mainly clad. That area, however, is where the 1855o Seated half and 1853 Seated dime came out of a little while back. Winter setting in our your way? HH jim tn
