My keepers for the day included a 1901 indian, 7 wheats, two old copper rings, a little heart pendant, and a big old copper disc that should have been a large cent but was't! :(

I know there was an 1888 indian found, 2 buffs, some wheats, some clad, a token, and a couple old buttons. We sure had fun!
Here is a close up of my 1901 indian!

Good job. Todays weather was much warmer. I live in Jackson, MI. Went out detecting today and like your post, I found a 1888 indian head penny. It was the only old coin I found, but it sure is fun to dig those up. You are lucky to have several friends to dig with. In Jackson their are not many who metal detect. But I guess that means the more coins for me to find.

Hope you will post often and congrats on your 1888 Indian Head penny also! Sounds like you and Mike are doing great in MI. Maybe I should think about moving to Mich, if and when my house gets sold! Sure beats MO on the good finds, as too many Explorers and dedicated detectorists hunting and finding the good stuff! On second thought, I don't like the cold....so maybe Arizona where Steve is, but then again it's too hot, so where, oh where can I go for mild, pleasant weather most of the year? :D

I was born and raised in MO....so I'll probably die here!!

May God bless you with many nice finds of coins and etc. Post, and with pics, when you can concerning what you find!

Betty

We have at least one club member in Jackson, and some others near by. Maybe you can come over this way for a hunt? I live between battle Creek and kalamazoo!

Thank you Betty. I really enjoy metal detecting. I try to find the older coins. My favorite spot is part of a historical farmhouse that has over 250 acres.Quite often searching in the woods at one time was farmland 120 years ago. The woods are full of poison ivy and oak so I have to be careful. This spot has yielded many old silver, Indian heads, and liberty V's. Not many people would want to detect here but I love it. This is a great forum and the members seem to be very kind and helpful. My children are too young to detect with me, my daughter which we adopted from Russia is 10 and really has no interest in it yet. My son is 7 and has not the patients yet. Seems like many of the forum members are from Michigan. If you ever head over to Jackson send me a message and I will let you know a few spots. Or if you are not to far from here I would like to detect with someone. I have benn detecting for five years and have gone solo each time. Betty you are in our prayers, my children will pray for you as well. Thank you.

That would be great. The only people I have seen in Jackson using metal detectors is an elderly lady, and three men. One man is Chris, I forgot his last name, and another man who is a cook in town. I don't think I've meet your friend, because I stop and talk to anyone who is using one in Jackson. I know their are more who own detectors but they just don't use them. Ask your Jackson friend if he searches in the Ella Sharp Park area. The woods is where I have found many coins in the 1880's, and one civil war metal. The one thing I am missing out on is the wealth of information other people posses in this hobby. I only have one good detector, it is whites mxt. I would love to get a better coil, but need to pay the bills first. I am currently teaching art classes at Spring Arbor University. I should research that area and find some spots. If I do, will pass the word on.

going detecting in MI, I probably never will unless I make it to the Forum hunt sometime which, so far, they have once a year! I don't even get out and detect much here where I live! I keep busy trying to get things done inside and outside my home! Last summer was so hot and dry that I just couldn't get out...the hot weather gets to me at my age (70) and the ground gets so hard that an icepick can't pentrate it very much!

I detected a little in 1980, but didn't get my own detector until 1981, so my ex could use his and not have to share it! :D I like to find older coins, but the detector I have doesn't go very deep, but then again, I don't have the energy to dig deep, so my White's Spectrum XLT is just fine for me!

I'm getting my home ready so that I can hopefully sell it and move closer to my sister who lives below Rolla, MO! Therefore, I probably won't be detecting much, as can't afford the gas and the time to get out and hunt! Maybe after I move, my sister and I can go places and hunt and also my brother, if he moves up here from FL!

Steve in Arizona is a retired school teacher, so you and him might have a lot in common!

Thanks for your reply & God Bless!
Betty
