Re-visited a place I have been going for about 13 yrs. as I always check back at old spots to see what might turn up.
I talked to the owner and to my surprise he said someone or ones's had visited it late last year but, only once.
Well, sure enough someone had but, they did not dig much from what I could tell but, what they did dig they left laying by an old tree (trash). Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :nono:
Well that is disappointing as that is just bad for the hobby. At least he knows it was not me.
Well, I picked it up and started my hunt with not much serious hopes as I have pounded this place over and over and over again.
I was able to snag 2 more Injuns an 84 and another 89. This is why I will return year after year or every other as I can usually snag at least a keeper. When I am not in the mood to drive to probably more productive spots this works out great.
The 89 was not as deep maybe 7" and I posted up a screen shot below of the hit midway but, that is a generalized hit as it did bounce more left then right and down and back and forth.

Then I moved to a different area and was able to snag a deep 84 Injun and sadly I did not get a screen shot but, it started top mid left and went far right mid then back and forth. A much different screen bounce but, same tone as the other.
This was deep as my probe was actually below the ground surface level. Pictured below.

So overall not a bad day. I also got a wheat, old copper spoon, what appears to be a rifle trigger guard and some kind of bent buckle? I also got a enameled inlay old broach/pin as seen below.

Hope everyone had a good day.

Well, we are off and running into March and I hope everyone has a fantastic month of finds.

Nice hunt Mike. I have a few spots like that. If I don't have much time or don't want to travel - I can always count on squeeking out something.

Nice, was the deep one a repeating signal from most directions? I just wonder how hard IH's will hit when they start getting that deep. Thanks, sam

samuel --

IH's hit fairly well down through the 7-9" range (the deepest I personally have found them, so I can't comment any deeper than that). I can usually get good, consistent hits from all directions on them, unless they are in and amongst trash. Usually, in my soil, when they are deep, the FE number will be bouncing up into the teens, while the conductive number stays in the zinc penny range (23-25 usually).

Thanks, i noticed the couple i dug last weekend that were around 5 inches deep repeated nicely but sounded a little lower then the wheats i have dug, almost like a zinc penny. But it was hard to tell with the electric fence making my detector erratic. Thanks

Awesome Digs mike, Bummer about the last guy that was there leaving the trash by the tree, Rookie move:rant:
great pics thanks for sharing!!!

- about if the deeper Indian hit repeatable yes at 2 angles but was good sounding.
I say two angles as when I get something that sounds good and is fainter sounding I circle it and wiggle wiggle wiggle that coil.
The other Indian you could get it from any angle wiggling.
