Got out to a fireworks display last night on the Thames River.

This is a yearly event for both Groton and New London Connecticut with the river between them. They shoot them all off from 3 big barges. Guccie sets them up for Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun Casinos. They estimate the crowd last night at 300,000 people. Sure seem like as we took the bikes down and it was after 11:00 PM before we could move and these went off at 9:30. I had my smaller camera but tried to grab a few shots of them to show how large the display was. We were out on a big pier that juts out into the river. This is about 1 mile up stream from where it empties into the Long Island Sound. The picture of the flag was on a Army truck and I though the lights made it a even better shot. I'm surprised the little camera even got them.

What camera did you use? Beautiful pictures, thanks for posting them. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

Beautiful display. Was there an occasion for these fireworks? You know, city, or county birthday? Maybe an anniversary of some sort? Or a competition between rivals?

Anyway, they are great..... but 300,000 people would be a real stretch for me to handle.

last time I tried to shoot fire works, I just got a bumch of bright streaks.

how did you have your camera set up?

a lot of features on it for a little camera. Its 8.1 megapixels and real small. I got it for my wife for her horse riding but find it real handy when I'm on the bike also. For those pictures I set it on auto and it did the trick. Surprised me for night shots.
