picked off a couple of oldies 
I haven't hunted much this past summer due to work and it being pretty dry around here so as the hunting season draws to a close here in Wisconsin I had that itch to swing the Explorer before the snow flys
I have been working in the city of Madison for the last week and a half, right down town with all those one way streets and all the narrow roads as you would find in a major city, I just hate driving in the big city because I live in the country in a little village of 1900 and the pace of life is much slower with alot less people and cars, this is why I have never really hit the parks in Madison, there is always to many people in them, well I may have to rethink that
For the last week and a half while driving to and from my work site I would pass this school in the busy part of the city, this school is in a old area with old homes all around it but the school looks only maybe 10 years old if that, but as I would drive by this school twice a day I kept saying to myself there had to be a older school sitting on this site before because of the neighbor being as old as it was.
So one day on my way home from my work site I stop at the school and walked around the front of the school where all the trees were, I wanted to see if I could see any roots from the trees, this would tell me if the school yard had fill dirt in it, bingo, roots every where
I knew I couldn't just hit this school just any time because there were always tons of people there, it's a busy school with stuff going on all the time even on the weekends so I had to pick my spot, test the waters and not draw attention to myself, it payed off
I got up at 4:30 this morning and was at the school by 6am with my Explorer in hand
believe it or not the ground was pretty clean, not many signals, not even trash signals and this confussed me, where are the signals I thought, then finally after about 30 minutes I hit a wheaty, then a rusty memorial, then a bottle top. After another 30 minutes and only a clad dime and piece of copper to show for it I started to think maybe I was wrong and started to work my way back to my cheve and said to myself it was worth a try Ray anyway, then I got that signal that stops you dead in your tracks, their is no sweeter sound then a Explorer using the Gray Ghost head phones getting over a silver target, I walked around that target knowing full well I had a silver coin but I wanted to enjoy it because it's been a while so I played with it
I looked down at my screen and it was pegged on quarter, I was thinking Silver Washington at maybe 8 inches deep because of the finds I had already made, I dug a wide carefull plug just in case I was wrong because I kept thinking about how old the neighborhood was around this newer school.
Sure enough, after a nice deep large plug that came out in one piece I worked around the target with the help of the Sun Ray X-1 Probe, ( thanks Sun Ray ) I popped my first seated quarter!

I notice the 8 and thought, it's missing the lower part, then I washed water over it after I got it home and could see that before it was lost something might have nic it or it rested up against something while sitting in the ground all those years, either way, it's 151 years old and my first seated quarter.

Then, about ten minutes later I hit this signal, I believe it's a civil war token but not sure, either way it's old and cool and has a date on it.

Soon after that I left, I did what I set out to do, test the waters and not draw attention to myself but still came away with some American history, I will go back in the spring and pick my spots and nic pick at it, sorry for such a long post but I wanted to bring you along, you had to be there
