I found a few interesting targest including a worn out silver filigree ring, a funky old brass key and most importantly a mystery silver coin. It's silver based on the crud build up and it's old based on the thickness of that build up. I doubt it's a quarter as it is significantly bigger than the US quarter shown below it in the pic.
Anybody care to hazard a guess?? Mystery coin is soaking in lemon juice and salt at the moment, I'll let you know when the crud is disolved.

The other neat find was a tag from Tiffany's asking that it be returned to Tiffany's and Co. in New York with a serial number on it. I have no idea what to make of that one.

Cheers,

What does that little # say on the loop. If is is 585 are you going to send it back to Tiffany's? Let us know if you got a reale or what on the mystery coin. GH

Im guessing the mystery coin is a big silver coin. :bouncy: Am i right???

The numbers on the top of the loop for the Tiffany's tag read 925. That would explain the black tarnish and the heavy weight.
You must have a sharper eye than me GH! Thanks.

Tiffany's 'L not see that silver agin. Tis goin' into me pirate bda's loot chest. ARRR, Tiffany should'n a worn it into the waters of Bermuda if she wanted it back 'eh? GH

I am so hoping that it is a spanish reale. I want to rush the cleaning process but I am holding myself back for fear of ruining this coin. Suspense is killing me!

I thought the same thing Horsesoldier, that would be pretty neat if it is because the small guage railroad here was torn up and sold off to British Guyana at the end of WWII.

Initially I thought the same thing Ina. I gridded out the area around the tag but found zilch.
Then I got to thinking:
Why use such a big tag for a piece of jewellery?
Why would they go to the trouble of putting a serial number on the tag and asking for a return?
Why would they make the tag out of sterling silver if it was going to be thrown away?
Maybe it is part of a key chain, but then where are the keys?
Could it be the ID tag from a wallet or purse?

Maybe the tag was on a strong box or other type of container.
Obviously whatever the tag was attached to was valuable or they wouldn't ask for the return or make the tag out of silver.
If it was a key chain fob, where are the keys?

I have to admit that the questions I posed to myself were a lot better than the answers I came up with.

Anybody else have ideas on what the tag was for?

Cheers,
