Got out and found a .925er

awhitster

New member
The rain quit long enough to hunt my local park for an hour or so. It's my fall back detect site that is 5 min. away. I've hunted it to death but there is always something new. I was saving the zincers for Rosco when he gets here next month but I turned them on just to get some hits. I don't grid it, I just wonder around aimlessly. I found a silver feather earring marked .925. I found 25 coins for 66 cents. So far this year I have found 554 coins for $53.85

I keep wondering bro if the stuff you found like today is stuff you missed before or is new stuff? You keep hitting that place and always find stuff......

STUFF......

I said I don't grid, I just wonder about aimlessly:detecting:

Works for me. I'll do the griding and find all the GOOD stuff you leave behind. Weather permiting I could spend hours in that park. I KNOW where it is.:punch::poke:

Nice silver feather, in fact it's beautiful (no I'm not a girl).

In fact, wanna trade? This ring I found today is in my honest opinion the damn UGLIEST ring I've ever found, even the ones that have been mashed. Yea it's .925, but I sure hope it was a fashion-challenged cheerleader's ring because I found it on the sidelines, by the benches, of a local high school football field. If it was a ball players ring, God help the poor kid. Maybe the pure ugliness expains why it was "lost". My wife disagrees, saying it's not that ugly. I know it beats NOT finding a ring....but would YOU be caught dead wearing this??

Sorry Parkit but I think that ring looks great!!!:clapping: Wanna know why? Because you found it, someone lost it, it's now yours, it's actually worth some money and it's another in your collection. Maybe you would never wear it but I have to be honest with you. I"ve never, never found a ring I didn't like. Be it a "rosco" ring, a .925, gold or other wise. Be happy!! I have 14" of snow to look at right now and we have more coming ALL next week.:hot:

I kind of like the feather too although I would be glad to add that ring to my collection if I found it. It still has $xxx amount of silver.
what does it mean when people say "grid"
Griding is going in one direction, then coming back one sweep over. Up and down moving over one sweep at a time so you don't miss anything. I do some griding but I am more of a "shotgun" detectorist in parks. In other words, wondering around aimlessly.

Oh well, just thought I'd ask. Now about the $ value of silver, according to Dendritics the Friday spot for silver would make my 2.7 gram .925 ring worth .... $1.33. And that's if I got 100% value, which I wouldn't. It's gotta be one of the most over-priced metals around for jewelry, I know that whoever bought that ring in the first place paid more than ten times $1.33 for it. This one will join most of the others in a box locked up in the gun safe, waiting for......... ? Silver to hit $75/gram? Melting into ammo for werewolves? Cap a tooth? Pulling out to "ooh and ahh" over once in a while? What else can you DO with a silver ring that's this ugly and only worth a buck?

You are pretty close with my $$$ so far, but you got more coins. Looks like I will NOT be detecting the next couple of days. The temperature is going todrop to the -40's and although my ACE would function, I sure as heck won't.:veryangry:

I have never been in weather less than +20F and that was cold enough for me.

you can go diagonal also! The Christian Metal Detecting Forum has had hunts in Michigan the past 4 years! I was able to attend the first three. Greg in MI gidded an area and found a Barber dime. It was an old area but had been hunted to death. I found an 1890 IH with my old Garrett GTA 1000 at 2". If I know an area has been hunted, I try to find the areas that the other guys don't go. away from the playgrounds, pools etc. I only found one mem, one IH, one 1990's nickel and a mood ring along with the usual junk. That is what I had to show for about 5 hours of hunting. Leslie(Nova Scotia) was there and got his quota of 50 coins and more. He was wearing a necklace he had made of SOME of the rings he had found. He was in the gravel parking lot area! With as much metal in the groung where aw lives if he gridded, he would never leave the ground.:clapping:

I was in -40F once. Enough said.
That proves it. You do have some common sense. I was telling everybody you did.

Catch a nice fish for dinner with that fishin lure!

Better n' countin clad!

I posted a pic of this ring before and it is the ugliest ring in the world. Found it in a small village where there are a lot of jewelers who make handmade jewelry. I call it's style free form but sometimes when I look at it I see a nude woman reclining. It is a bunch of blobs of silver if you can't tell from my crappy photo and the dirty state of the ring. I found the maker and she sells them for 25-50 bucks each and assured me it was free form and that she sells a lot of them. I forget her name but it is supposedly well known in jewelry making circles, at least around here. It weighs 7.23 grams and is supposed to be pure silver.
