Went in search of un frozen ground today, didn't find enough worth detecting, that's why I always take my camera with me.....just in case. Took pics of a wide variety of subjects today, but no critters. Enjoy.........nge

Thanks Ron. the single guy fishing by himself, I titled him Fat Cat, fishing........lol

I am glad seeing you get outdoors and taking some pictures. You always post interesting pictures. Kelley (Texas) :)

That scares me, fearful the ice would break. I guess you can tell that I am not familar with that type fishing because we have warm winters for the most part. Thanks for posting these pictures, I enjoyed seeing them. Kelley (Texas) :)

When the ice gets 4 inches thick, it is safe for concentrations of 2 to 3 people to be within 100 feet of each other. When it gets 6 to 8 inches thick, you can have a party:jump:. To do this sport some people actually use a specially adapted fish finder to find the fish through the ice, then they use an auger (similar to auger style post hole digger) to drill a hole through the ice (yes they have gas powered ones too) or you can use what we call a "spud" basically a chisel welded onto the end of a long heavy steel bar, to chip through, (lots of energy expended) whew! This is a big activity in this part of the country, up at Houghton Lake in Upper Michigan it's like a carnival (they get 16 to 30 inches of ice thickness) Vehicles are driven on the ice and the town of Houghton sponsor's a festival called "Tip up Town" If you want to find out more about Ice Fishing, google it. There's not enough time to explain it here, nor time:lol:. I am not lazy, I actually have participated in spearing northern pike through the ice, sitting in a homemade shanty, in -20 degree wind chill temps, I was nice and warm from a little furnace inside with me, or if you use a canvas tent type shanty, a buddy burner works nicely and cheap too. Here's your first link, http://www.datehookup.com/Thread-1095452.htm there are plenty more links from this site, you can also look up what it takes to prepare for ice fishing, the equipment you'll need, what you'll need to stay warm, how to build a sled to get your stuff a couple miles out on the lake, etc etc. Some treasure hunters also use this opportunity to "magnet" fish near the docks and boat ramps, can be very profitable. You don't know what you're missing till you've fished through the ice! I don't do it so much anymore , since I want my new knees to last as long as possible, the ice is as hard as concrete and will kill those knees if you fall.......nge

Do you catch very many fish this way? I saw a video on the Internet where a lone fisherman was ice fishing when all of a sudden a killer whale type fish crashed through the ice and ate the man. I guess never being around the ice and snow that I just have a difficult time of grasping what it would be like. I think that the cold weather like that would kill me. Kelley (Texas) :)

I live about 25 miles south of canadian border with Ontario.

of playing on the iced over stock tanks. To them, evidently playing on the ice, fishing and etc. was just a normal winter event. You folks do interesting things. Kelley (Texas) :)
