Got out a few minutes with the M6.....

Got to hunt about an hour with the M6 this evening..... Didn't find anything significant but can give a little info on the machine...
With the sensitivity at 100%, quite, no noise.... pushed all the way to the right in the program ramp and occasionally a little noise...very, very little... Worked under some high power lines and verily noticable. Ground balance isn't even noticable..very fast...
As a relic hunter, I use little or no discrimination.... I chose today to run the sensitivity at 100% with zero discrimination with the trigger in the center position(single audio) I dug almost everything to see what the machine was telling me.... The ID was right on almost every time if it said iron, it was iron, if it said non-ferrous, that's what it was.... deep questionable targets where the readout would jump from - to + numbers and back, were iron..... I tried the M6 with the trigger forward in the audio ID for a short while...the audio was right too...What impressed me the most was the ability of the machine to correctly identify deep iron... but as with any machine, a couple of iron washers at 4-5 inches, fooled it....
That I don't mind because I hunt scrapnel.... It is too early to say but from a relic hunters viewpoint, I think the M6 is going to do well.Maybe this weekend, I can hit a site that will produce...Best to all, RichardnTN

I like to hear "relic" reports as they are baically the same as Jewelry reports.

Is the audio in the center position the same as the MXT in C/J... Please say yes!

your first impressions about this new detector. Keep the posts coming.

I always wanted tone ID on the MXT,so i may have to go with the M6 to have MXT power with tone ID.

HH,
Andy

same as the MXT's C & J..The audio response is a wider response, more difinite.... BTW, I dug a .22 at roughly 8 inches and the audio was great.... At 100 % sensitivity, the 6 ran so quite, that I caught myself running the shovel under the coil to see if it was still working.... Best to all, RichardnTn

to get use to.... I am used to an MXT with the mixed audio when there is only 2 sounds..... with 7, it can get a little "busy"...but with a couple of hours, I think that should be no problem especially if your hunting coins.... Relics I don't think will be a problem since ya dig anything that isn't iron.....
BTW, the M6's are as "scarce as hen's teeth" 4 machines for 67 dealers.... more to distributors this week though.... with a list of $699.95.... $560 including shipping and insurance very probably
..... Best to all, RichardnTn

Hey Righard, Do all US coins (except nickels) come in at the same tone? How about TID on them? Thanks in advance for the info. HH Randy

audiably with the high tone....except.... a clad penny.....and even lower, is a nickel.... so actually there are 3 different sounds for coins..
Thanks Richard

-95 = 57Hz (Low tone)
-94 to -4 = 128 Hz
-5 to 7 = 145 Hz
8 to 26 = 182 Hz
27 to 49 = 259 Hz
50 to 70 = 411 Hz
70 to 95 = 900 (High tone) Hz

75-83 on copper pennies, dimes, and quarters
62 zinc penny
20 nickel
Pulltabs are consistently 24 with an occasion jump to 22...
These number are consistent continually except an occasional
bounce between 18-20 on an older nickel and a new one....
Tnx Richard

Could you give exact numbers for penny/dime, quarter, Half and silver dollar? It would also be nice if you could give an outline of where the tone breaks are in reference to objects we are all familar with along with the machine's vdi's. Air tests would be fine. Thanks in advance and HH.

Steve, as shown on White's website, here are the 7-tone categories by VDI breakdown:

7 tone I.D. No need to even look at the display. Just listen for the sounds you want to dig.

The VDI ranges and the corresponding tones:
-95 = 57Hz (Low tone)
-94 to -4 = 128 Hz
-5 to 7 = 145 Hz
8 to 26 = 182 Hz
27 to 49 = 259 Hz
50 to 70 = 411 Hz
70 to 95 = 900 (High tone) Hz

Note that most coins are going to give a 900 Hz audio response. Also note that from -4 at 128 Hz to +26 at 182 Hz there is a middle tone to encompass the -5 thru +7 VDI range at 145 Hz.

I would have preferred to see more resolution on the upper end as the M6 is geared toward coin hunters. It will be interesting to see how it goes over.
