Went out for about a hour before it got to hot.Found a 1905 Indian cent,this makes about sixteen we have found on the land.They all have only been down about two inches,this one was right on top,it was on a path we ride the fourwheelers on,maybe from riding on the path.The 3D with the 12inch coil is doing great out there.

Got one more Indian cent 1905

Around 3 no higher then 4 ever.I wish I could tell more,anything above 4 and it will sound off just from swinging it.With my c$ I can get that light tone and I know its deep.With the 3D I have never had a light tone,they all have been the same on deep or on top of the ground.I dont think theres a problem.Just where I hunt,all over the state.I mostly hit park,not knowing people or the area it hard to find old sites to hunt,I never hunt unless I ask.I pass by so many old farms that are falling down and wish I could hunt it,just dont know who to ask.So all I ever get is parks that have been hit by every person around.I did get to talk to a farmer one day and he told me I could hunt this old house, just havent been back down there.I may only be in the area a day and then move on.I had a 12in coil on my MXT and had to run sen low with it too.Is it just the large coil?

That is lot of Indian Heads. Without naming the specific area, what part of Illinois are you hunting? I haven't done much in Illinois but have some places near the Misssouri/Kentucky border (Alexander County). What is your oldest Indian in Illinois?

Knock on the doors surrounding the old farmhouses and ask who owns them. Lots of times, it's the person living next door to it. Also, go the county courthouse and look at the Platts (maps). They know who owns the place and it's a matter of public record. Once you know who it is, look them up in the phonebook or write to them. Those old houses can hold good coins. Spend some time doing research and knocking on doors and you'll spend less time digging junk. 
Or following in other detectorist's footsteps. This is where I do almost all of my detecting. I don't have any 100 + yr old parks near me. I end up making friends with lots of these people and once they know what I'm after, they recommend more places.
Hunt around the old houses with the 8 or 5" coil as they are usually riddled with iron. If you get far enough away from the house, you might be able to use your 12".
