Got numbers 44 and 45...hoping to hit 50 by year's end...

I got out for a hunt this past Thursday, and didn't find much in the two old parks I was hunting -- until just before calling it a day and deciding to hit the baseball field portion the park. I wasn't sure this ballfield was real old, as I could tell it had had some dirt work done (it was clearly "leveled" at some point), and so I feared that the ballfield was a more recent addition to the park. However, I decided to give it a shot, and I'm glad I did. I pulled two deeper (6") memorials -- a '59 and a '61, and also the '51 wheat and the two Mercs in the picture (the other wheatie came from the other park).

One thing that surprised me was that the '38 Merc (the deepest) was a measured 7 1/2" deep, and had a GREAT silver warbling tinkling sound, plus halfway decent ID -- despite the depth; while this may not sound like a SUPER deep coin to some of you, it was pretty good for me, while using the 6x8 SEF coil. I'm guessing I would still have nabbed this one if it were an inch or so deeper, given how well it showed itself at 7 1/2"! :) The more I use that 6x8 coil, the more I like it. It's a deadly coil on the Explorer, when swinging slow and really listening carefully...

These two silvers are numbers 44 and 45 for the year for me. I have been hunting with the SE Pro, my first Minelab, since early April; I had set a goal of 25 silvers for the year with the new unit, and obviously I set my sights way too low for an EXPLORER! :) So, I re-set the goal for 50, and have about a month left to get there. Here's hoping... :)

Thanks for looking,

Steve

Five more to go Steve !! You can do it !!! I had to be satisfied with 49 this year...

So your ground is frozen now, eh, Dave? I'm thinking I would have to find a warm day, and bring an ice pick, to get me up to that 50 number, if I were you! :) Sometime late in the upcoming week it looks like a warm-up, and maybe some rain (not snow) is headed your way, briefly... :) I smell 5-0 for you...

Yes, it is supposed to hit 44 on wednesday. I just may have to take the SE out of the closet one more time .. :detecting:

Nice going, Steve. I think I'm going to shoot for 25 next year. Congrats.

Good luck getting #50 sgoss. You will get it done.

Under promise and over deliver....I like how you roll sgoss! keep it up and you'll triple your initial target!

Also, do you own a 10x12 SEF? Just curious if you do and if you prefer the separation on the 6x8 and feel it exposes more deep oldies based on that alone.

Nope, don't have a 10x12 SEF. I have thought about it, but for a large coil I have come to respect the Pro coil, and am not sure I would get that much of an upgrade buying the 10x12.

As far as the 6x8 goes, YES -- I DO like the separation it gives. There are some coins I have dug that I have NO DOUBTS I would not have hit with a larger coil (due to nearby trash). I am really, really learning to like that 6x8.
