Bill G

Member
Got my new Outlaw in today, installed some wire loom protection and padded cork tape on grip (easy to clean does not trap dirt like foam and get grungy) Waiting on rain dust cover should be here next week.

You are going to love it. Don't wait on the rain cover. Use a baggie for now. I also wrapped a baggie around the hand grip to keep it clean . I taped it on. Has not come off all summer.... KEN

hay that looks just like the one I have, let us know how you like it . I like mine I found it gives better signals with a slower swing speed. and it loves gold . and gets good average depth on silver

wat no dirt take it out and get it dirty is what i would do take your time get to know it hh

I had a ball out with my Outlaw today. I started out with a different brand of detector and wasn't having a good time, so I got out the Outlaw.

The audio is just music to my ears. Ken is right about the baggie. I have a rain cover, but never use it.

C'mon already!!!! Report...report... I'm curious to see which Outlaw you ended up with? Put that thing through the ringer. Someone posted on another site they know they have some issues witht he Outlaw but haven't publicly admitted it. Curious if yours is the "improved" version..

Looks like he put the plastic rubber housing you use to in case auto wire ring.I wouldn't use it. I like to inspect the coil wire every time i clean the detector.

The units are all the same, just different users. Start the Outlaw in the all metal mode and ground balance. If you use the de-tune button while pinpointing, raise the coil off the ground and push the re-tune button again before starting your next search or the discriminate mode will remain de-tuned. It's really simple to do.

The dual function pinpoint button is causing the extra step. It's not a big deal if you know what's happening. Hopefully, Tesoro will replace the dual function push button with a single function push (re-tune) button and use a toggle switch for changing modes. Doing that will make things less complicated for some users.

Other than that, the Outlaw rocks. I'm having a ball with it.

tabman you are 100% correct,

That is what I have found true so far with all my at home testing and air testing with the Outlaw (working a grip of OT right now 12 hr days , I will get out in the field with the Outlaw on my next days off) I think the retune button, duel function pin point is confusing folks but it really is straight forward to use ( a little different than a regular pin point button and some are not quite getting how it works). I think this is where the confusion or complaints like you say have come from with the Outlaw detector ( people think they have a problem with it and they don't).

hunter12,

To each there own. I have been using this stuff for over 12 years on all my detectors, never a issue with the coil cable no damage ever and no need to check under the loom material ( as it is sealed with a light cote of tape it does not even get dirt inside it) I have had buddies cut there coil cable or puncture them in the field, never ever had a problem on my units. By the time I inspect the coil wire if I did it like your doing it and there was a problem found, well it is just plain to late the damage done. (coils are costly this is cheap insurance) that is why I use the protection.

Gerry,

This is 1/4" wire loom protection. Pic of loom material installed and a pic of the loom material plain. This stuff is worth every penny on a detector I have never had a coil wire get damaged in the field after I started using it.

Soon working 12 to14 hrs day a lot of OT right now no days off. When I get a day off I will be out with the new Outlaw and to the beach with the new Sand Shark when I get a chance. I have to pick witch detector to get out with first on my 1st day off that's the hard part.

No problems with the Outlaw just a miss understood retune duel purpose pin point button ( some are getting confused by it's operation)

That's a great idea to protect the coil cable, Bill. All it takes to lead to trouble later on is a puncture or tear from a briar or thorn.

But what have you got the rod wrapped with ? That looks great. I never have been a fan of the gold rods.

Gerry,

I use just a plain old good quality black tape wrapped evenly around the rods (cut out pin holes in rod with small hobby knife carefully after wrapping) Protects rods easy to remove later. All this in my opinion keeps the resale value up on detector if one ever decides to sell, we do use them in harsh environments. Just added a housing cover see pic ( I did remove the clear plastic screen with a razor knife from the cover I just did not like it. The clear part just plain got in the way of the operation of the knobs to me, but the rest of the housing is still protected)

I have done this to every detector I have ever owned with great results. When I sold the detector or traded one in I got top dollar because they did not look like they had been used as a shovel. The effort paid me back in the end. I blow my detectors of after every hunt with air and wipe them down with a lightly dampened cloth ( some will say that's excessive for a detector but to each there own)

Happy Hunting,
