Got new CZ70pro-Have question about pp & id

I got my new CZ70pro a couple of weeks ago. Been md for 3yrs with whites xlt. I love the CZ!! I have found targets with good id. high coin. target sounds deep but when i move the coil aside and push pp and bring it back to the target I don't get anything. I thought I might have tuned it out by being too close when pressing pp but still can't get anything. This has happened twice. Is the target bogus? I checked all around for metal to make sure it's clean around spot. Still get id but can't pp. HH

I think whats happening...unlike the XLT..CZ is a superior depth machine and may be hitting the edge of a can two feet deep or possibly two feet to the side...Try a coke can laying on the ground and depending which angle you come in at with the swing may get a hit even if the can is quite a distance..A good rule of thumb is to make sure target repeats from two directions. With time in the field and experience that spike from a distant object will be just a hair different in audio...Just takes practice I guess....

They are times when the detector will respond to a target in the ID mode, that is too deep the get a pin point signal on. The audio gets boosted in normal operating modes, but doesn't in the pin point mode.

This may be the answer.

that when hunting with my 70 around bleachers and playground equipment, I often get a "high coin" beep when I move the coil away from a nearby metal object (support). As you say though, one becomes accustomed to it with use. I still manage to find targets within 3-4" of metal poles, just listen for a double beep.

Hi Dan, almost like the old TNet days. :) :)

Dan certainly has a lot more experience with CZ than I ever could muster. When I was learning with my first detector, Dan was helping out others on the use of the CZ.

I just went through the same scenario with not being able to pin point on the target but was able to get what appears to be a good response in ID mode. I was using both a CZ-70, and a CoinStrike. Both did the same. I was certain a target was there because I put it there, A quarter buried at 12". The CoinStrike would ID correctly but could not pinpoint at all. The CZ-70 id'ed it as iron, and again no pinpoint.

After testing a few more units, I have come to the conclusion that most detectors can respond to a target deeper than they can pinpoint on.

I'm not certain that's the problem the question originator is having, but it could be.

You all have a nice day

This is new to me. had a whites xlt and it would pp or go deeper in all metal than it would id. I can't believe the depth the cz gets. the best i could ever do was about 6" on the xlt on a dime or penny. I'm digging coins at 10 1/2" now. I used a piece of 1/2" conduit, punched two holes in the ground and buried dimes at 5" and 6" 2 feet apart. xlt couldn't see em. I even tried it before I sold it. Still nothing in id mode with sens at max. Took the CZ out there as soon as i got it. I found em easy! I could locate (id) the 6" dime with the coil 3" above the ground!!! I've still got a lot of learning to do on the cz. right now if i get a good id, small pattern on a coin i will pp. if it is quarter or half size when i pp and get a depth, i'll usually go 3" deeper and wider and check again. if it still says 4" and I'm at 7" i'll hang it up, fill the hole and go. what do you think? would you find it or do the same? oh yea, I do check the hole and the ground around the top of the hole with a probe too before i go.
