Got new CZ70pro-Have question about pp & id

Glad to finally be back on the forum! I'm new to the CZ's. had a whites xlt. Love The CZ! I have found targets with good id- deep target, faint tone but good id. I have moved the coil away from target and when i press the pp button i get no tone so I bring the coil over my target. I still don't get a response. Is it a bogus target, hot rock? can't get depth reading. I'd appreciate you help. HH

however not knowing the ground your in it's a tough call. The other thing to consider is large deep iron objects such as horseshoes, axeheads, even buried infrastructure can drive you crazy. One time i kept getting what i thought was a good solid hit on a target that i just knew it had to be good, well it turned out to be an axehead off to the side about 12" and about 7" deep. The one thing about the XLT is the Signa Graph gives you the Iron Spread as an ID aid. In my opinion, any good target while using the CZ should hit in the same spot on the ground everytime your pass over it from different angles and should pinpoint in the same spot, and perhaps it would be beneficial to learn the footprint of a coin sized object both in Disc Mode and All Metal Pinpoint. Most XLT users go with the Auto GB and the CZ is all operator induced so make sure your not too positive on GB.I'm sure there will be many other opinions from experienced operators but thats some of the things that i've found.HH Bill

remove a big plug and rescan the hole and try to pinpoint. If it's good the signal should get better (but not always). This is where a SunRay inline probe is a blessing, as once you remove the plug, you can get down in the hole with the probe. The CZ goes DEEP, so the probe really helps, especially with those deep iffy signals. And of course, the target could just be junk too.

I think whats happening.....CZ is a superior depth machine and may be hitting the edge of a can two feet deep or possibly two feet to the side...Try a coke can laying on the ground and depending which angle you come in at with the swing may get a hit even if the can is quite a distance..A good rule of thumb is to make sure target repeats from two directions. With time in the field and experience that spike from a distant object will be just a hair different in audio...Just takes practice I guess....Allhuntedout is right about pinpoint just not being as deep as the Disc. mode. Sometimes really have to work to get a pinpoint on super deepies. Usually digging a plug will allow you to hear them better so if I get an iffie work from the top before I dig a 8-12 inch hole..

Thanks for all of the input. I guess this will be part of my learning curve. It sure acts like a coin though. good in all directions, small pattern. I'm gonna go back and dig that rascal up. I hate to miss anything. It's a real old location where they used to turn the train around at the Tenn. River. I'll let you know what it was, if I can dig that deep. This dad gum CZ goes DEEP! I wish I had it years ago. HH

I've got one target I'm sure in my mind is an indian head penny, it is either in or under a 4" tree root. I've tried to get it, but there's just no way. The last idea I have is getting a cordless drill with a hole saw on it and trying to drill through the root! Deep targets are always interesting, even if they're junk. The thrill of the chase... hope you get a good one!

I'll be sure to let you guys know. also HOLE SAW.. Why didn't I ever think of that?? Might start taking one with me!!!HH

Now I'm really starting to wonder about my site. It's on the banks of the Tenn. River. very old spot but the penny was a 1996 and i botched the dig. I would use my automax probe and if i didn't get anything would re-swipe with cz. if target still there then i would dig a couple more inches with small shovel. last check measured a touch over 8" and got id. still no pp. took another bite with the shovel, then probe. still nothing. swipe with cz. Nothing. HUM???? dirt was real damp and gummy. got to looking and found corroded 1996 penny next to shovel. 1996 at around 8"??? spot is bad to flood, guess the dirt staying wet so long let the coin sink. Old coins are prpbably near china by now!! But I'm learning! HH

Using the washing machine effect might be right on top..Working near a river had a dog walker pass by and show me his seated half that he found right on top..So it can work for or against...

TennRon/MT,

I'm a total novice, but I wonder.....did you scan the hole again after you found the penny?Only asking because of the excellent post gabe did in the Garrett forum, showing how he used the Sunrays Intruder GT-1 probe where he pulled several coins out of the same hole, that his handheld probe didn't even get a buzz.

Good Point Dan-pa! Also good Question Bowtie. Yep, I scanned the hole and also around the hole. You are correct though. a lot of times coins will come in two's and threes. I'll try and get a pic of the site this weekend. HH !

Try to increase your sensitivity and/or volume. Always worked for me...

Also try raising the coil 15" or so and then puch the pinpoint button....see what happens..

Good luck !

John
