Man that baby is light and sure seems to pick out buttons and coins from amidst cut nails. The snow is deep, ground is frozen and lots of schoolwork etc., so no chance to take it outdoors yet, but sure is nice to have a new detector and can't wait to see how it works in the Adirondack and CT soil. Anyone have any tips and info on the differences b/w it and the DFX as far as depth, use in tough ground, trash etc. Wish I could find out by taking it outdoors but unfotunately, will have to wait. Thanks everyone!

Brandon,

I have used the X-5 for almost 3 years now, and I love it. I don't know about your "Yankee" ground but here in Arkansas it works like a charm.

In the sandy loam soil of the the "bottoms" of the Jenkins Ferry battlefield, I have dug bullets a couple of inches deeper than the Lesche blade of my shovel.... maybe 14 inches. But, those were very faint signals that I may not have dug, had we not been digging deep bullets there anyway.

I've not owned many machines, or have had the liberty to test others, but the X-5 is the most sensitive machine I've ever used (being afraid to make this claim for fear of ridicule, but my relic buddy can atest). I've dug #6 squirrel shot after chasing the tiny lead pellet all over the ground in the exposed dirt.

I am also very satisfied with it's ability to target buttons and small brass pieces among the trash and iron items. Once you get used to it's little nuances.... and begin to recognize what it's telling you about the target signals it's receiving..... like with any machine you have to "meld" with it.... you'll do well with it.

I don't mean to sound like a promo ad for Troy, but this is the best overall relic machine I have ever used. Again, I have not owned but 3 other machines, and have used a couple of others, so I'm sure others may be more qualified than I when comparing it to other machines.

Hope you can get out soon and start learning to use it!

Kim
