Got My Wings

Over the past weekend I visited with my Brother and both sisters in Phenix City Al. Of course I took my detector. Saturday morning found me and my brother in law in a local park. Finds were few and far between. In talking to one of the Park Security Guards he recommended that we go hit an area on Fort Benning. He even drew up a map of how to get there. Since we were not finding much we decided that we would go see if he was giving us the straight skinny. So off we go. Drive and Drive and Drive some more. Finally my brother in law pulls out his smart phone and takes a look at a map and says "We are a long way from where we were supposed to be going." So we head back to my brothers house for lunch and to consult the computer to see if we can determine where it was that we went wrong.

We were able to determine that the Guard had left out one very important Left Turn on the map. So off we go to the location. Arrived and looked at a field that must have been 500 or more acres with grass that was 10 to 12 inches tall. We tried to do some detecting but it was very difficult and all we could find on the field was spent M-1 brass and unfired .223 blanks. Of course the usual aluminum can reared its ugly head.

I headed back to the parking area and on the way got a nice signal and up comes a set of Paratrooper Wings. We did manage to get a few dollars in clad and some UMO's. (Unidentified muddy objects).

And that is how an Old Retired Submarine Sailor got his wings.

nice

The Sovereign GT made me think that they were silver but there is no markings on them to indicate that they are. Currently I do not have a test kit to make sure.

I just thought that they were a neat find during what could have been an exasperating day.

That's a beauty. Very nice!
