Got my Tejon today

The mailman brought my Tejon with stock and 5.75" coil this morning. I had some new batteries all ready to go for it, I slapped them in and went out in my yard with a quarter, dime, nickel and penny. I had the stock coil on it, first thing I noticed when I went to ground balance is I didn't have any threshold if playing with the threshold dial I would at times get a slight threshold buzz. Next thing I noticed was the ALT. Disc. discriminated out everything no matter where it was set. I went and grabbed my can of electronic cleaner/lubricant and gave the toggle switch a spray, opened up the faceplate and gave each control a spray. Now when trying it, it seemed as if it was stuck in all metal mode (it wasn't clicked into all metal), so I gave the toggle another good spray and worked the toggle back and forth a good amount. Now everything seems to work except getting a threshold like it should. I then put the 5.75" coil on it and everything works as it should including the threshold. In summory when using the small coil I can increase and decrease or anywhere in between the threshold. With the stock 8x9 coil I have very little if any control of the threshold no matter if it is clicked into all metal mode or if I hold the toggle switch. I get good air test results, I have owned and used a Tejon before and this one seems to do its job but I am pretty fussy and know it isn't perfect. I am hoping that after I find my 1.5mm allen wrench to remove the knobs (all knobs have a o ring on them) and get the stems, etc. good and clean and dose them with another shot of spray that it will be 100%. You can tell that it was used but doesn't look abused, I think it has been sitting without being used for some time.

I am with you on this one Steve, I like everything at 100% before I spend a lot of time hunting and then find out it was missing stuff.

Good luck with your new to you Tejon,

Ron in WV

I have a brand new one on the way - and I can't wait! Know anyone in White Plains, NY?

I would only use a o-ring under the ground balance knob. I bought a allen wrench (1.5mm) so I could remove the knobs on my Tejon, it fits all the dials except the ground balance knob (it has a larger set screw)(what size I don't know, when I get time I will take my detector to the hardware store and see what size allen wrench it takes and grab a couple). I have an extra o-ring that I took off from under one of the other knobs which I believe has the same size shaft as the ground balance shaft and if you would like it let me know your name and address at my email address skiwhiz1960@gmail.com and I will put it in a envelope and mail it to you, no charge.

No, I don't know anyone in White Plains, I am alot further north. I imagine that you received your Tejon by now and image that you really enjoy it.

thanks ski whiz but i actually went to dads mechanic shop and took off knob and it had an oring on it from factory so i put a little bit of a thicker one on and it made it a little better.(i first put two thin ones on but i couldn't tell if i was gonna strip it by turning it to much so i stuck with the one) thank you
