Got MY Silver U-Max (I WAS IMPRESSED!)

Just dropping a line to thank those who responded to my post. I just received the Silver U-max in the mail and tried it out in my back yard. First of all let me say I have some really bad ground in spots. I recently buried a penny, nickle and quarter at 6" and a dime at around 4". I also buried a penny in another spot at 8" deep. A Whites XLT Spectrum could get the targets with a weak signal but had a hard time with correct I.D. My Minelab X-terra 50 could get some targets, but had some trouble on getting a repeatable signal. Neither machine could get the eight inch penny buried by itself. Keep in mind that my ground is really bad. I have dug quarters in sand at 10" plus with the Minelab with no problems and dimes at six to eight. They just could not do a good job in my yard. Remember both have a manual ground balance. I have read a ton of post before I purchased this new Tesoro. I owned an older Silver Sabre (Not U-Max) years ago. It was a well built machine, but did not get a lot of depth for me. After trying the other two machines I tried my new Silver U-max with the stock eight inch coil. Got a good signal on the penny, nickle, had trouble with the dime, and got a strong signal on the quarter. Now for the penny I had buried at eight inches that neither of the other two could get. The Silver hit it hard with the coil skimming the ground, I kept raising the coil until it was at least four or five inches above the ground and it still got it. I guess I should mention that all these test were done in all metal mode. I really like hunting in this setting. Now I am not trying to say that one machine is better than the other, I really like my Minelab, I just thought some of you would like to hear how much I am impressed with this Tesoro. One thing before I quit rambling, my unit came with a coil cover. It goes on kind of loosely, and dropped off a couple of times. Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks for all your help.

use clear silicone and do all the edges. this will keep the cover on and keep dirt from getting in to. you don't have to use that much.

Glad you are having fun with the Silver uMax...

I would use inexpensive painter's latex caulking from a tube instead of silicone.
Easier to apply, (water cleanup), and easier to get off when the time comes, and serves the same purpose.
and it's cheaper...

Sorry about the empty message box I was testing my new voice recognition system: with windows vista since I'd type so slow.

All that I've read on the silver is that it's a great detector and thinking of getting one for the tot lots and keep it in my work truck

I know except on the really hot days best of luck

What really hot days?

Gosh, where do YOU live?

They are made in Arizona...

The home of sand, sun, and pickup trucks!
