Wow, what a difference. I had a set of the cheap set of headphones that came with the detector that I got from Kelly Co. With the Black Widow's, the threshold tone is far clearer and the target tones much sharper. I can hear the faint signals much better also. I highly recommend that anyone who has one of the cheaper set of headphones spend the money to up grade. The Gray Ghosts are great also. The new set also fit much better and block out the wind noise which is many times a problem here in the Arizona desert. They sure are larger than the old set, but I love em. Wish I would have spent the money sooner, I'm sure I missed some finds with the old ones. The coiled cord is a bonus also. The old ones had a straight cord that was always getting under foot.
I'm heading out to an old ghost town this weekend and am hoping for a few good finds. The guy who told me about it showed me several old revolvers he dug up at that site. I also got one of the swingy cord things that attach to your belt and detector. It should lighten up the weight of the 10.5" coil. I'll have to see if it's a help or hindrance.
I went out to the old Sasco silver smelter by Silverbell last weekend. I didn't have a lot of time to spend as I went late in the afternoon to beat the heat. It's really a shame that these old areas are so full of trash from people who don't gave a darn what they throw on the ground. I had the 10.5" coil and would have been better off with the 6" coil. I found a piece of a large old saw blade and several old railroad spikes, but nothing of real value. Just too much junk. There were nails everywhere, but using pattern one nulled them out with ease. Next time I'm taking the 6" coil to cherry pick.
Good hunting, John K
