Yesterday was the magic day. I upgraded from an ACe 250 to an X-Terra 70. I bought it new and got a super deal, I got the X-Terra 70 Pro that includes the bag and the 9' regular coil and the 5x10 Coil (18khz). I bought things from the guy before so I get extra freebies and this time I got a pair of Koss MAC-8 headphones and a Stainless steel digger. At a wonderful price of 698, mines a 10percent coupon I had I ended up paying 629 and free shipping with two years warranty. I was glowing, now I got to take this baby out and see what it can do.
Is there a coil cover for the 5x10? and my last question is:
Are you happy with the stock coil or is better to order the 10.5 (7.5khz)DD Coil. I'll be grateful on any info on this. Thanks!:bouncy:

Congrats on your new X-Terra! I am sure you will really enjoy it. If I remember right the 5x10 does not have a cover. I had that coil, but sold it. I now only have the stock coil. Good luck to you with your new detector, Beale.

Thanks Beale!

The 5x10 does have a coil cover, and it's probably on it, looking like part of the coil. When I first got mine I thought Minelab had done a poor job of sealing the coil, but as it turned out, that was the cover. It comes off easily, but won't fall off in use. Great coil too.

I would highly recommend the MF 10.5" but there will be times you would want to use the stock coil. My 10.5 is the deepest of all.

Thanks Shenandoah Digger,

I was wondering about the quality for the 5x10 too. I thought it looked cheap, but you say it is actutally a coil cover so I'm happy with it now. :wiggle:

Right on!!! I want a 10.5" MF DD also. I just bought mine too about a month ago. But now I cannot use it because there is too much ice and snow here. (I hope you live somewhere like in Florida or Texas or San Diego where you can use your X-70 all winter long through Jan and Feb, because I wish I did.)

I upgraded from the ace 250 to the x-70 and I have not touched my ace 250 since that day, it is collecting dust in the corner...lol
The x-70 blows it away!

You should make sure your 5 by 10 has its coil cover on it. Mine fell off right out of the box. I put it back on, swung the detector a few times and it fell off again.....really easy to fix. Look at the seam where the cover meets the coil. Wrap a layer or two of electrical tape all around the coil and cover right at that seam. Did mine when I got it and the cover never has fallen off again. If you want to pull the cover to clean under it just remove the tape and when done re-tape the thing. I also taped up the unprotected area on my stock Etrac coil....carry a roll in my detector box all the time now. Your going to love the Xterra. Just read Goes4ever posts...he finds more stuff than anyone I know....beats the heck out of this desert hunting. Good luck with a great machine. Tortoise

Thanks for the suggestion Tortoise, I probably do that. * : )
