Got my new GT

SurfPro

New member
I received my new GT today and I have a couple of questions, any info would be much appreciated.

I have an extra part with no description in the manual. It looks like it could be a stand for laying it on the ground. The top is Y shaped with wings that go out from either side 2", they join together and come down to a base that is a 1.5 x 1.75" with a small hole on the edge of one of the long sides.

2 extra long bolts with wing nuts?

Also I ordered a hip mount bag that doesn't match the description in the manual. On one side it's closed with what looks like a loop that you would put a belt through. The other side is open with a 7 x 7" pad that I assume is to close that side (attaches with Velcro) . In addition to that there is a strip 2.5 x 7" that Velcro attaches to the 7 x 7" pad. I have no idea why the one side would be open, or how to configure these pads. I plan on hip mounting the pouch, I sure that I could figure something out, It's just annoying when there isn't clear instructions.

Thanks very much.

that does sound like the stand, it mounts under the armcuff, cant be used(I believe) when your rear mounting your control housing. looks very close to the one used on the explorers, might be the same one, minelab does that sometimes.

The part sounds like the stand used when you hipmount the control box, it mount under the arm cuff where the control box would sit, but if you hip mount this stand would go there instead.
The hip mount bag is black with Minelab on the side of it right? if it is this can be used also as a weather cover for the control box mounted on the shaft is why it is open and when hip mounting you put the big pad on it that is held in place with Velcro. Then there is a extra piece too that can be used for mounting it on your belt with out sliding it on the belt, kind of a quick way of taking it on or off.

That makes sense, thanks very much. That's the bag, Minelab logo on the side. The adjustable belt that came with it seems like it would want to keep sliding down. I'll probably hang it on my belt via the extra Velcro strip.

I'm strictly a beach hunter, any tips, setting etc... would be much appreciated.

....beware the target that nulls (iron ??) because it is at the edge of detection depth

.....a quick removal of 2 or 3 inches of sand to check that it is still nulling is time well spent

....if it still nulls then you are probably safe to move on

.....any hint of a tone then investigate.....I got a big chunky gold ring this way !!!

Enjoy the GT...it's deeper than my PI !

Thanks for the tips. Are you running the stock coil?

Thanks for the tips. Are you running the stock coil?

Yes, I run the 10" Tornado coil BUT I also have the Sovereign amplifier which gives an extra 15 to 20% depth increase.

I have tried the bigger coils but keep returning to the stock coil because it is soooooooo good.

Tony.

Tony, you are talking me into one of those Shaun amps. Extreme depth without needing to go to a bigger coil than the 10". I just wonder if seperation suffers with the stronger TX signal.
