Got my new Explorer 11 today

Well, I must say I am impressed with it. I did as they say and went out to my little test garden I've used for years, 4 coins at about 7 to 8 inches. I found them all, in factory preset. That was about as deep as my CZ6 or my Whites would go, well the White a little deeper. But I don't know how it will do later, as I of course tryed some other setting, confuseing is all that was. Maybe after I use it some more right?

You might like to go to Audio Gain and increase it from 5 to 10 just to see that you can double the depth if you want to. Audio Gain is the same as Preamp Gain on the DFX in many ways. The factory preset for the Explorer is only half what you can get and with sensitivity at 28 is super deep and sensitive.

My White isn't a DFX it's a old Spectrum, which is a pretty good detector, but heavy. The CZ 6 has the audio gain on it, I guess the Explorer works the same way, makes the weak signals stronger, and than they really are. Is that the way this one works too, can throw you off on size if deep and how deep they really are? But at least you can hear them.

There's a bunch of us that are learning the Explorer and we have really appreciated your input. Thanks a million...Ray Hogan in Waco, TX.

At an Audio Gain of 5 and below the intensitity of a detected target indicates how deep the target or how far the target is from the coil. At an Audio Gain of 6 to 10 you cannot tell how deep the targets are from the coil by the intensitity. They call that modulation on some detectors because we can indicate depth by intensitity of sound. The Explorer gives us both ways to do it.
Sensitivity is how faint the targets are you want processed and Audio Gain is how much the processed signals are amplified.

Thanks Cody, I'm sure I will understand it better as I go along. Not sure I will get to try it tomorrow as they are saying 100% rain tonight and tomorrow. If it stops any, I will be out seeing what I can learn about it. From what you are saying I guess its like the CZ6, it will still tell one how deep it is by the display, just not by sound, right?

Yes, it has a depth indication. It is not marked in inches but you see a depth bar that give you an approximation. These are darn good machines and will get you some good finds.
