GOT MY NEW 705!!:detecting:

The 705 came in yesterday evening! A big thanks to Richard at Backwoods for a very easy transaction! I've been watching all the videos and reading the FAQFAQ section for the last week or so, and I'm pretty sure I'm ready to go out and conquer.. Friday am will be a swim beach area at a local lake, then maybe later an old farmsite if it's not too grown up (probably is). Now I just need to save up for some good headphones and all the coils I need! First on the list is the 6" DD because I want to hit some gold bearing areas here in Texas and also hit New Mexico in a few months. My only disappointment is that it didn't come with a cool Minelab sticker..but I can certainly afford a few of those. :minelab:

Thanks! I just know all the good stuff will pop itself out of the ground and just GIVE UP now..LOL!

"First on the list is the 6" DD because I want to hit some gold bearing areas here in Texas and also hit New Mexico in a few months."

If you do not have a 5x10" HF DD already yet, that should be first on your list for gold bearing areas. Good luck! Or HH!

So the 5x10 first.. I'm open to whatever works best for sure. The only reason I was wanting the 6" was because it's waterproof. However, if the 5x10 is a better performer that WILL be first. At this point I can only go on the recommendations of others... I do have a 1 ton truck though, so I know I can carry any and all accessories I decide I 'need'! LOL...

Yes honestly and definately I would get the 5x10" first choice BUT it is not waterproof as you already know. Get both if you can afford them. Also get a plastic case with a foam insert for your X-705 in the truck. Like from Pelican Cases, UK, or Hardigg...

You may look at a used second-hand Pulse Induction, Minelab SD-GP unit or Garrett Infinium LS as a second back-up unit if you are gold prospecting quite a bit also. But they are not as good on very small gold and very poor discrimination, as compared to the X-705 VLF.

5x10 on the way! I made another post with the find from this morning that will hopefully pay for it!

Great choice if you are gold prospecting! Also this may help, here are cases that you can use to carry your metal detector and coils:

Besides Wal-Mart gun and bow cases, also look at Pelican Cases---Hardigg Cases---UK Cases...high quality storage and carrying cases for metal detectors...

UK Cases:

I like this one, this Hardigg one is awesome:

The best ones at Pelican for a metal detectors are models 1700, 1720, 1730, and 1750...get olive green or beige but not black for the direct sunlight...you will be very please with these waterproof cases...

Thanks for the links! I was reading about those and remembered that I have an old Halliburton Zero stashed in my attic! Now I just need to find some foam.

Thanks, 1) I have never heard of Halliburton Zero before so I looked and here it is! http://www.zerohalliburton.com/index.jsp

2) I have an old hard shell Samsonite plastic luggage-suit case that would also work for a metal detector case with foam put inside. Maybe a person could use an old violin case too as the X-70-705's control head pulls off and lays flat. So take the old 1928 Thompson sub-machine gun out of the violin case and put in the X-Terra in there instead, heheha!

3) A person can also make his own at home if you are handy, out of about 3/8" to 1/2" plywood, piano hinges, and with foam. (A person could get foam from a bedding shop, buy foam used for under sleeping bags, or the waffled foam used for putting over a bed mattress, then cut this to fit.)

4) On my Garrett GTI 2500(which I did not like and sold) it came from the factory with a soft outer shell case nylon with cut foam inserts formed to fit the metal detector.

I dont kjnow where I read it, but when I first got my 5x10 coil I thought it was waterproof! I did use it in a stream, fortunatly only for a little bit as I didnt ruin it..haha then later read it wasnt waterproof..I got really lucky! ross..^_^

When my 5x10 gets here I'll be scheming to seal it up.. Not planning on water hunting with it, but I'm kinda paranoid about my stuff AND would like the ability to search shallow water such as creek edges and stuff. I just bought it Friday, have no actual trip scheduled and I'm already chomping at the bit!! Once I do get it and my sluice, I'm headed to the Llano! Then, if I can round up somebody, New Mexico this fall or next spring. Just depends on money, time, and time and money...LOL..and friends to go!

Well, you need to get on the horn and give me a call! Would be nice to hit those farmsites again if they aren't overgrown!

We definitely need to get together! I'll be in Colorado next week soaking it all in and trying to convince my wife we need to move there...
