Got My "HOW TO BUILD THE BEST FLOATING SIFTER EVER" Article In The July Issue Of W&E Treasures.

Designed and built one last year. No metal at all, so you can dump your scoop in the sifter to see if the target is in there by scanning the floating sifter with your coil.

Those floating sifters sure save a lot of time when water hunting. And of course, the best sifter is always the one you made yourself.

I'm going to try and find materials in my shop today, and build me one! That was a great little article John...thanks for sharing it!
I am going to the coast in two weeks, and I'm trying to gather as much info as possible. I'm afraid I bought the wrong scoop and those things aren't cheap! I did some water hunting last week, and I found it difficult to pinpoint in the deeper water. Or maybe it was that goofy scoop?

Congratulations, John! That is a great design, especially if you already have the Garrett classifier, which I do. I like that the classifier is removable, as I have two 5 gal buckets (one with bottom cut out) that I use it with in shallow creeks or dry sand/gravel. Gotta say, though- Joe has a great setup, too! (& I like the little blue bunny in the pic!)

Yep, we all think we have the best, BUT none can beat the one with gold in the bottom!

Your's, his, mine...does not matter as long as the user is happy with it. I put the noodle around the Garrett sifter back about 9 years ago.
I think I will try the larger trash bag and stabilizing weight...good thoughts.

Joe in MD...is that an original Miller Scoop? Several detectorist I know whish they could find one. They do show up on eBay from time to time.

I like his design and the fact you can scan the sifter with your coil. I made my sifter larger and it takes longer to look thru the sifter, but for my area it's the best design for me. Glad they printed your article John. Too bad I let my subscription lapse to W & E and LT, both.
I never had time to read them and it was a waste of money and time.

You create many wonderful articles that help to improve the hobby for myself and others John. I need to D\L them and keep it organised. I miss some or forget to grab them in the hub bub of weekly life. Thanks for the effort.
