Only been out 4 or 5 times total and found my first nickel today. Beauty was, I knew it was a nickel because it didn't sound like the trash tone. I feel like I am learning the machine. It is a coin magnet.
Congrats! Nickels are fun to find! Once you get their sound down you'll be finding a lot more.
I still have, and use, my Tracker IV from time to time. I keep it as a back up. But I still use it every now and then just to stay in tune with its functions.
I had an experience like yours when I first started using my Pioneer 505, a 3 tone ID detector. But once I started to really look at my display and used less discrimination, I dug more of those pulltab/nickel signals and started finding more nickels. It's just one of those things with the 3 tone detectors. With my Legacy 3500, I don't have the problem finding nickels. It has 4 tones and immediately gets my attention that there is a possible nickel in the ground and the telltale 34 to 35 VDI reading tells me there is a high probability that it is a nickel.
Congradulations on finding your 1st nickel. Now that you have, you know what to look for and the proper settings to use to find them.
HH.
The Tracker IV is a good detector for sure ! There are a lot of them out there.
Good luck on getting the gold ! Tot lots and soccer fields should be a good place to look.
