Got My First Deer

Nancy-IL

Well-known member
Tuesday evening I was coming home from Washington and a deer hit my car. I was very fortunate that it only scratched the side of my car, not even a dent. I will never forget that beautiful face of Bambi before the big THUD! That poor thing is probably still nursing it's headache. Be careful out there, the deer are really thick this year............Unless you're a hunter.

Ouch!!! I hope it's just cosmetic and can be repaired pretty easy. The only vehicle that I totaled was when I hit a deer.

Just a deep scratch all the way to the metal. Love the picture too!

Glad you are all right! (I hope you dont mind me reading and following your guys Forum..I like to follow your clubs adventures):clapping:

I have never seen so many deer on the road as this past week!..I drove from west MI last Sunday night leaving here at midnight on my way to Atlanta...good thing there was a decent half moon and not a lot of traffic..deer all over I65...looked like a fellow was driving through the meat counter at the local supermarket!..they were running around in the median, squashed all over the highway, and along the sides too....
Coming home Friday night should have been a nice peaceful 13hr trip, but it took me 16hrs on account of all the deer moving...I try to snuggle in behind the semi's and let them plow the road...even then, it makes for dangerous travel...theres data you can pull up on how many deer accidents are in your State per yr...and I bet its a lot, like probably 30,000+...they will kill a person if you try to dodge them and lose control, or hit one going full speed...so theres not a whole lot a person can do when they are moving except pray and concentrate...they are so fast and can come out of nowhere, no amount of being ready or paying attention can save a person...(I also straddle the center of the road if theres nobody around coming up behind me...I figure it gives me just a small chance of making an evasive manouver and not leaving the pavement for a roll over in the ditch)...

I drive a lot, surely have well over 2 million miles since the 80's and have never hit one yet, come close a time or two, and have had friends that have had them run right into the side of their car...My Wife, Daughter and Son have all hit deer and totaled cars, so I thought for sure my number was up Friday night!...I took my time and was running high beams all the way...all sorts of folks flashed me on account of it, but dang! There was deer all over the place! I was exhausted by the time I got home at 5:30am...only to have to shovel a foot of snow..:stretcher:...On a good note, I did find some loot including gold down South!...eyeballed this 14k in a parking garage, and stabbed up these coins along the Interstate at strategic exits...I had to go to ATL for business, but I ALWAYS have a heater along! That is a cute picture by the way!

Mud

Hi Mud, Goodness no, we don't mind you following our posts. In fact, it's nice that you do and contribute. You've got a lot more snow than we do. We've just got a dusting of snow on the ground. There's no hunting in this cold weather for this gal. :surrender:

The deer are thick around here also and you stated, "friends that have had them run right into the side of their car", well that's what this one did. Just walked right into the side. :stars:

Congrats on the gold. I wouldn't mind having a pair of those earrings and not too shabby with the clad finds also.

Be careful out there.

You and others are welcome here anytime Mud. We enjoy your stories and thanks for sharing your finds with us also. A gold find is a gold find whether on the beach or parking garage. :clapping:

I have to agree on the deer this year, I don't think I remember seeing more deer along the roads, dead or alive, than this year. I too put on a lot of miles on the truck, 60,000 a year and have lucked out on a deer encounter all of those years.

Winter hunting is not too bad if you dress for it. I got out with a buddy yesterday for a few hours field hunting, neither of us found anything worth bragging about and the temp was right at the freezing mark. We have a couple of 22 degree days coming and then a warm-up so the season is not over yet.....
