I bought a excellent shape CZ3D from Dave and it arrived today. Serial #1021 series.
Did some bench testing with the settings described on the forums ( Disc 0, GB 10, Sen 5, Enhanced Mode, Vol, 10). Was hitting a clad dime at 10 3/4 to 11 1/4 inches clearly so it passes the depth test. I used some Indian Heads and Buffalo nickels and they all rang high tone. Passed some thin gold rings and pendants over the coil and most were Ring Tab or Foil. Some thicker rings were Square Tab or Nickel readings. I like the 4th tone option and I think I can get used to it since I am used to only 3 tones. I did have a $5.00 gold coin and most times in Enhanced in gave a mid tone, with some highs, but in Salt mode, it rang mostly high. Don't know at this time what that signifies, but until I actually go out and use this machine in the field, I ain't worried about it !
I was comparing the CZ3D to my 2 CZ6a's ( which also pass the depth test on a clad dime but the 3D did hit a tad better and a little farther away/'deeper'). One thing I can say, the sound on the 3D is much cleaner and crisper. I don't know if it is due to the enhanced mode, newer technology or because the 6a's are 10 years older, but the sound is definitely louder, cleaner and crisper.
Going to try to get out this weekend to a few older ball fields and parks and I am going to dig only high tone repeatables and stick to my guns on that one so I can see what the machine tells me and what I dig up. Also, going to only use enhanced mode too, and I cant' wait to get out there !
Will keep all posted as to what transpires.
I would like to thank David Keene for this detector. It's in great shape, and he also included a Sunray FZ1 probe with the package that I can't wait to try out too since I never used a probe/pin pointer before.
First few voyages though, I am not bringing the Sunray.
