got my at-pro today, assembled it and went for a test run in my yard, this machine is very confusing to me ,,i used pro mode, zero and just dug everything, found a penny and a whole pile of trash, this is my 1st detector so this is probably goin to be a hugh "learning curve" but..im goin to enjoy every second of it!!!

Sweet! Heres a little trick if your new...really drop the sens down...like just a peg or two above zero and see if you can still pick up a dime and how far...it will really help you not get beep overload, and show you exactly what kind of power we have here..

Here's a tip I do taking a newbie out for the first time. Not to get them aggravated digging a lot of trash, I put the detector in coin mode so they dig a lot of coins. Of course they probably won't find gold, but at least they don't get discouraged. After you feel comfortable with the detector then go to the Pro mode and dig most targets above 40 VDI's. JMO

If this is your first detector then I recommend doing just what JOE in MD said. That'll get you going in the right direction. Good luck, Joe.

Build a test garden with a penny, copper & zincoln, nickle, dime & quarter then practice on it. Review all the videos again & again, Then research & review the post from the long time users of the Pro.

Finally be patient... don't get discouraged give yourself time to learn what the Pro is telling you & dig the iffy signals they hold the most surprises.

Check to see if you need to Ground Balance. Listen to the tones, and when you hear a solid repeatable signal go over it again to see what the VDI reads. Then, dig the target.

Look at the videos that explain how to use the AT Pro.After a good week or so you will wonder what the fuss was about. Its always confusing when using a new machine but even more so if you never used one before at all. You will get more than enough help at this site, good or bad.

It has a very sensitive coil is what I've figured out so far. I practiced my pinpointing for about an hour yesterday and lead will sound like a coin because I found a car battery connector that I thought sure was a coin. I also noticed the older pennies or at least the ones that had been dug out of the ground had a mid tone and a penny out of pocket change had a higher tone. Swinging the coil fast makes more variation between the digital readings than a slow swing. You just got to play with it and use it as much as possible. The more you use it the sooner it will fall into place. I'm hitting the woods this afternoon and hope I have something worth posting when I get back. Once I learn the 8.5 X 11 inch coil, I want to try the 5 X 8 and the sniper coil, but I want to learn the larger coil first, especially the pinpointing. That will save on the size of your hole and the amount of digging you do. Good luck and HH.

I remember getting my first detector, an ACE 250 and feeling overwhelmed. The darn thing made so many beeps and boops in a childrens play ground that I though I'd made contact with the mother ship in the Close Encounters movie ! When I moved out to the school yards I had less contacts close to each other and could learn what the sounds meant. But it was farm fields that really helped me on the curve. Good luck bud.

Everytime I thought I had a coin today, it was foil, can or metal junk. I guess the AT/Pro was getting targets pretty deep because the soil is saturated with water from the 6 inches + of rain we got. I did find one penny in the church parking lot. Heading back to the beach tomorrow and hoping the water isn't too high from the rain. some places up river got 9-12 inches of rain since feb-7th thru wednesday. I wish I could find me some gloves that go up to my shoulder to handle the cold water. The iron audio worked on some targets, but not others. It will probably take me awhile to learn this detector.

Way to go fongu, I read the owners manual, watched the videos - more than once I might add. I then went out and starting to learn the target tones and VDI numbers. (still am) It's been said the best teacher is experience. AT Pro is one very user friendly detector. Go for it and find plenty of the treasures. Happy hunting.

Thank You for the help guys,i went out after work this evening, dug alot of trash but learning none the less...i did manage to locate and dig a '44 wheat :) not much to you guys but was a very satisfying felling and i was overjoyed lol p.s. my 13 year old daughter thinks im nuts, and i bought my 7 year old son a bounty hunter and he was a digging fool along with his daddy tonight,im loving every second of this...once again thank you

I remember my first outting with the Pro and lol I took it to the beach.I didnt even know how to ground balance. I was pressing buttons like I was a crackhead.I was swinging it soo fast and pacing like I was running late to a meeting.

I remember googling on my phone trying to get answers watching YouTube videos on the beach within 5 minutes I gaved up.my metal detector was grunting making so much noise driving me insane I thought what the heck did i just buy .

I must of walked about 5 miles and dugged holes the size of bunkers, Had trash to fill 5yard dumpster.

To show for my effortd, I pulled 5 quarters and crusty pennies Had a blast being a madman.

Keep it simple, use the beginner settings learn your detecor. .

I was looking looking for gold in my 1st hunt lol.

You received your machine one day and the next day dug up a 69 year old coin? Are you kidding? That is an awesome find and just shows you what the AT Pro can do for you. I tell you what, your 13 year daughter will be wanting one for herself when you come home with a gold ring that fits her. Way to go. You are having some family fun now.
