got my 505

ok guys and gals, i got my 505, 8inch coil. been reading my manual. i am new to meters and id. i am an older unit tesoro user. i have been on the mend from surgery and can get out a little now. i went to the back yard and played a little, but my dirt is full of crap from previous owners, and i had mixed signals, actually multiple ones. pennies galore.

Does Xing a target work? does it change the read out? i am going to have questions before i make decision to keep or trade. what mode do you folks mainly hunt in for freshwater beach, good for gold and silver rings? disc, notch or auto notch. bear with me i am trying to go from beep and dig to new tech.

The 505 has an "All Metal" mode which is a no-motion mode. In All Metal, the audible tone will be greatest when the coil is centered over the target, and most people use this rather than X-ing to pinpoint a target.

I don't use notching because the only part of the spectrum that I might want to ignore also contains gold items. Yes the 505 can find gold and silver rings.

I just crank-up the discrimination to eliminate most iron and set the unit to Disc mode and start swinging.

thanks wayne. sorry so late getting back on forum. had some setbacks and out of town. after a re-read, i do believe the reg disc is the way to go, i like the rings and i believe the notch might be too much and knock them out. pennies spend and digging easy at freshwater beach. i am having to get used to the meter and tones. out of habit from my beloved tesoros, I automatically X a target to pinpoint or bust up iron signals. mine does not have pinpoint. that does not set good with this meter and tones. i think the unit will be fine for the freshwater beach with practice.
