TN Mike

Member
Nabbed it off the bay. It was previously owned by rusty at tesoro and so im hoping its in good service. Hits a quarter at around 10-12". Going to try it out soon wish me luck:spin:

Also, will the new coils work with it?

sounds like a nice one

I think you got one heck of a deal. I had it on my watch list as a maybe and forgot all about it.

It sounds like Rusty put a special tune on that Bandido to get an air test like that, 10 to 12 inches is great. All of the modern Epsilon (5 pin) coils will work.

You are going to love it. I have had mine for a while now. The 7" coil works really nice on it. Depending on your soil conditions I would get the wide scan for worse soil and the concentric if you have better soil. I have both coils and use them on my Eldorado Umax and Bandido Umax more than the stock coils. Rusty definitely tuned that detector. That is not the usual results on an air test. I did one recently on mine and was in the 6 or 7" range on most coins tested. The target separation is good on this unit and it has the usual quiet disc of the Tesoros. Enjoy your new machine. You got a great deal.

Lol went back and checked it.. maybe i was a little excited there looks more like 9". but still very nice signal. Does get around 10+- maxed out, but its noisy.

Edit: Thats the 8" brown Doughnut.

Took it out on a hunt this morning, found some clad and other junk. Noticed it hits really good on nickles. Its nice to find nickles, hopefully others are passing them up running high discs, and possibly missing the gold too.

Congrats! Thats hands down my favorite machine... put a CSC on that, and have a ton of fun. I'm mostly a park hunter for jewelry etc... and that CSC just cracks me up! A ton of fun and the finds have been fantastic, at least IMO. Anyways, when I use it on the Bandido II uMAX, after GB'ing, I can pretty much set the Sense all the way up and have a ball. Min Disc, if any. I feel like I am the king of the top 4-6 inches, lol.

Enjoy your machine, its a good one!

Ron

And oh yeah, congrats on getting Rusty's - gotta be some great luck on that machine.

Thanks! Its my first Tesoro and I have to admit I really like it. I have a ace 250 and had a MXT and liked them but I just spent way to much time looking at the screen. The MXT did get me a silver dime at 10" in nice moist soil.. the MXT literally sang Dig This Target (imagine a choir like hall effect), so I'm hoping this will be able to bring in some of the deep silver too.

What coil are you running on your Bandido? I too hunt parks a lot! Edit: Sorry I figured it out.. clean sweep lol .. 4-6" not to bad though.

Also, if you didn't know, google earth has a nice side bar tool that will highlight local parks. Been using it to find a couple small local parks I didn't know existed, you would possibly be surprised at how many tiny parks are out there. And its great for finding parks and ball fields out in the sticks. Out there is where I found the silver.

Mike. I used to be a screen checker as well when I owned machines with screens. Then I got my 1st Tesoro, the compadre, and I have not gone back since. I hope you enjoy your Bandido. I am thinking I will probably need to add at least 3 more Tesoros in the future to what I already have. I keep telling myself I already have enough for one person to use. The whole you can only swing one at a time, but after you use a Tesoro you got to have more. You should try a compadre in the future. It seems to be my favorite detector for now. Thanks for the tip on google earth with parks. I will have to check it out. Make sure you take the time to learn the bandido.

I was tempted to bid and still am on the elderado on ebay.. and a couple others at that. But, I'm finding I really like the bandido. The pinpointing is super good, and depth checking is just a matter of listening to the sound and or lifting the coil. Those two things (pinpointing, depth checking) are what I felt I would be at a loss in regards to a VDI machine, but I'm not. I took maybe a 30 mins to a hour to get that somewhat down. I still have a lot to learn though, and am having fun doing it.

Instead of buying another tesoro used, I'm gonna wait and see what new machine/s they are coming up with. Hopefully no VDI...

Edit: I don't proof read..

Howdy Mike, yeah, the B2 uMAX really does tal kto you after a while... pretty amazing machine.

Thanks for the info about google earth, I'll have to try this... I did not know it would work that way - cool!

Good luck... and yeah, have heard a bunch of good things about the ELdorado as well. Fun machines!

Mike i have the Eldorado Umax in addition to the Bandido II Umax. I picked it up close to the same time as the Bandido for a deal I could not pass up. I like them both for different reasons. If I bought a Tesoro new I would probably go with a vaquero or a lobo. I saw that Eldorado up for sale. Nice looking detector. You don't see many in that good of condition. They are getting harder to find than the Bandido II Umax it seems. I am just happy to own what I do, and I am curious to see what the new Tesoros look like. I think it will be a while before they come out unfortunately. I am not complaining, just waiting.

If you dont mind me asking what headphones do you use with your Bandido? I bought some Jolly Rogers (16ohms) and though they are comfortable, I'm not hearing much of a distinction in audio in my targets.

I own an older pair of Tesoro stereo headphones. I guess back in the day Tesoro made headphones as well, because I got a pair with my silver saber Umax when I bought it. Still wish I had not sold that detector, it was a nice one. I also own a pair of calrad stereo headphones. With the bandido Umax and most Tesoros there is just a single tone. The only Tesoro to come out with multiple tones in the last little while was the golden Umax. Many people who use Tesoros say they have a language of their own and after using them for a while you can pick up on subtle differences in your targets. They are correct in saying this. I usually like to dig all targets for whatever discrimination I am set on. If I have a lot of time to hunt will set my detector to iron. If I have less time to hunt I will go to the f in foil. On both settings I will dig all. Since I decided to dig all I have dug a lot of pull tabs, but I have also dug a lot more
rings and gold jewelry. If you are more into coin shooting the f in foil will work for a setting. I have not used the jolly Rogers headphones, but they will work great. I would suggest building a test garden to learn your detectors language better, because it only has one tone, but with time you will come to know a difference in your targets by sound.

Thanks for the advice. I wasn't looking for any real change in the audio sound but rather if there were any crackles or odd changes in gain. I have noticed if I sweep targets slowly I get some neat results. Im gonna look in to getting some new coils to play with also.

I would recommend the 7" coils for coverage and target separation. They seem to allow me to cover plenty of ground and
still get good enough target separation in trashy areas. They are an all around good choice IMHO. The new coil coming out looks interesting though. The 11x8.
