Got into a monstrous dime spill:surprised:

Hit it at just before sunup, a local sports field, hunting for GOLD! Well, you know how things go, started out good, banging nickels, sniping every Q and rotten zinc, stabbing all foil and strange signals, pulltabs and the like...Anyway, all of a sudden, I hit a massive dime spill! They were all in an area the size of a garbage can lid, out in the middle of nowhere in front of the goalposts 20yds... had to drop sens into the high 30's and bounce coil, working from the outer edge inwards. All were 3" deep, some were on edge, a half dozen clipped and bent by the field plugger...

It was an awful mess to try to unravel! Working the screwdriver, trying to get them all, but after what seemed like 20 minutes, I thought, I'm out here for gold not a bunch of danged dimes! I got 35 dimes, not all of them in this spill, but I bet at least 20 of them were, and I believe theres at least 3 left that for no amount of trying I could locate, got them tipped on edge from the sounds of it...I'll let the dirt settle down and get them someday. The F70 was squirrelly as heck today, ground balanced 3-4 times, changed freq, dropped sens, tried all sorts of tricks to get it accurate...must be solar flares hitting us right now, never had a problem here before like I had today. Or maybe I'm out of practice? It was too early to be drinking, so it wasnt that!

I've encountered the same thing twice and in the same small town no less. Alcohol is forbidden in public parks of course but a little conversation with some dog walkers in those parks revealed that I had most likely discovered the location of an occasional 10 cent kegger night by the locals :) I hit similar numbers too--25 or 30 dimes in a three foot diameter.

Lucky you, Mud, on the dimes. My big coin spills are always 1 centers. Nice haul of clad you got. HH jim tn

Nice!

I found 16 quarters in a park like that once in a small area.
You should have heard the sound in my headphones when I ran over this area with my Vaq and the big DD coil.

Ha! I generally love big spills, Its usually a very fast way of upping count in short order, but this one got on my last nerve! Maybe it was on account of I was gold chain hunting to get a leg up on REVIER?

By the time I was done dinking around with it, my ears were shot...I hope you all get into an old silver coin spill someday, now that would be something! Practicing on clad has its merits, most tight spills screw up a detector user to the point they are missed.. I went home and got to work changing the sparkplugs on the Magnum...you know theres 16 of the damn things? Set me back nearly 100 dollars for all of them..Oh well, it had 150k on the originals so it was due! Gonna take a lot of dimes to get that money back!:sadwalk: (Or one big gold of something!)
