Well they sell a zillion units because they are the best and since electronics do not last forever they have quite a few to repair. I to have had to wait a couple of months for a repair during the busy season however I have 2 more as backups so I can continue to hunt with the best. If you are a serious water hunter you will have at least one back up. A few gold rings takes care of the additionML said:Yeah, when they work. Too bad their service turn around time stinks. And that's coming from someone who has experienced it on more then one occasion.
During my breakdown period I also had a Infinium LS being repaired (new machine 3rd replacement) I have 3 excals because I have 2 with WOT coils and the 3rd is an Excal 2 that is still under warranty. I live in FL and hunt year round 4-6 days a week weather permitting. My equipment gets USED and nothing electronic lasts forever as you must know or you wouldn't be buying more and more office equipment. Do your faxes and copy machines ever break? Do they get fixed instantly? Do they need to be pressure tested to 200 feet? Are they exposed to salt water on a constant basis? I think for the most part given the number of detectors sent in, the ones that actually need to be repaired & not just have the adjustments explained to the user, Minelab is doing a pretty good job. As for owning 3 excals, I also have an Infinium LS, Sea Hunter MK2 and a Whites BH300-different beaches require different detectors. I also find that by alternating the detectors they are not used as heavily as if I had just one and besides I canML said:Erikk - Rather then people having to own three Excals in order to not be without one for several months, maybe Minelab (with the 156% increase in profits they made last year) should look into hiring more than two techs to support the large number that have been sold. That would actually be proactive in avoiding a potential situation down the road. Their sales have obviously increased over the years and the fact is, they can't keep up with the repairs. Imagine a year or two down the road. Sorry for the rant, but I have been a buyer of office equipment for a state agency for many years (copiers, fax machines, mailing equipment, etc) as well as service contracts and warranties for these items. There is no way that any vendor source that we utilize could get away with the turn around times that Minelab does. As you can tell, I'm big on customer support after the sale. And I'm hoping that my Excal or Sov GT don't break down ever again (fingers crossed).

I was very happy with my Minelab service and got it back before I was expecting it. Yours may be behind one that the knobs don't CLICK. Sorry just venting a little. HH![]()
