GOT AWAY FROM THE PARK YESTERDAY

Well yesterday I was able to get away from the parks, and let me tell you, IT WAS SO NICE!!! I am getting burn out on hunting those same old pounded parks.. Don't get me wrong, they still produce some great finds for me. I have been eyeballing this old house on the side of the road for months!! No one lives there and the roof is falling in! So it was tricky for me to find a owner! I just happen to be talking to my step dad who sells real state and asked him if he possibly knew the owner.. He was like yeah,, My ex wife Linda owns it.. I was like oh,, is it a good idea to tell her who I am then???? lol She ended up being a very sweet lady! And informed me that the place has been hunted by another person,, possible two. When I first got there,, I fired up the SE took two steps and got a hit,, dug down a popped out one of those rare 1940's Wheaties lol The first thing I noticed about the area was how much iron the was in the ground! There It was everywhere!! I started scanning the ground with the SEF very slowly.. I finally after diggin many other odds and ends,, I got another coin signal... only about 2 inches under the grass I pulled a beautiful green 1880 Indian.. I started feeling really good about the area. And hoping that the other guys left me at least one piece of silver! I fumbled around for about another hour digging buttons, clips, shot gun shells, skeleton key, and other keys.. I decided to take of the big coil and put my 8 inch sunray to work up close to the foundation of the house! I started around the side, working through the iron.. There was about a 5 foot area between the house and a shed,, I started across it and got a big quarter hit,, I dug down and only about 3 inched was a 1941D Washington quarter!! I covered the plug,, went back over the whole.. She went off again.. Opened the whole back up and saw something shiny, I thought for sure it was a silver dime... NOPE a play dime ,, I rechecked the hole and pulled another play dime, I ended up finding the quarter, 3 play dimes, a Kansas sales tax token, and a Utah sales tax token all in about a 8 inch area,, I like the tokens and the play money,, something different,, but it still would have been nice to pull 5 shiny dimes out with that quarter lol I also found a clip that said

Sounds like you had a big time! Looks it too!! Good hunt man, and what are the odds of who the owner was, huh?

I love the feeling of having a new place to go that I know is old. then to go there and find some cool stuff is even better. Good Job!

Nice finds Derrell. I'm not much on asking permission to hunt houses...unless I know the owners...or the friends of the owners...etc.. It is a very nice change of pace though when I do hunt one. I just get in one spot...then really concentrate on the deep signals. Something that's hard to do under the constant pummeling of pulltab/trash signals at some spots.

Nice Digs Derrelld! Glad to see some of Utah pop up in your area... especially a tax token ...one less for me to find out here. Great pics. That house has to be a detector magnet yet you still pull out a 41 washington that is great. cant wait to see what else you pull out. Good luck.

Great job, Derrell! You definitely weren't preceded by Minelabs at this spot. That house really has character in its architecture. Keep up the good work, and private homes are definitely the way to go - they are the areas most likely to not have been hunted before (at least that's my experience). Take care, and hope the silver continues to hit your pouch. Johnny

Nice finds Derrell. Last year I stuck to parks and schools and a few houses but plan on expanding by asking lots of old home owners. All they can do is say yes or no. Congrats. PJ

I think you are on the right track....Go for the old houses and fields used to grow food....the parks has too many semi old coins....once you start finding older coins the wheats and mercs. and barbs. will start to be a bore...and then you get spoiled....it bites, but the oldies are worth all the money to ya....the only thing will any coin is key dates and condition of coins.....but get into the older ones in your area....and it gets better....if your like me...soon the older ones get to be a bore...and now your looking for the gold and GW buttons and gold coins, and 1652 pinetree shillings...etc.....it get's bad once you work your way to the top of the lists....Nice Finds Darrell, your heading in the right direction...

Thanks Ex-Sox
Yeah the odds of that are pretty slim lol It was exciting to have the feeling that there could be something hiding anywhere !!!

Thanks Montana!!! Keep finding those goodies as well!!!!

MIKE
You have no idea how good it felt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And i only dug 2 pull tabs the whole time is was there!!!!!! The best feeling is going to the park after i was done, where my friend had been hunting for four hours,,, He pulled out 3 wheat penny's and said look at what you missed,, I pulled out my handful and was like "it's ok,, i got all this" lol I'm definitely going to start asking more often!!!!

Good luck to you!!!!

Derrell

Thanks Bryce!!!
I wasn't much for it either,, My stomach always turned while knocking on the door,, But it's getting better,, Like PJ said,, All they can say is Yes or NO,,, And no happened to me today lol

Thanks Ron!!!!
