Hmmm ... after previewing this post I see that I should have cropped the first photo a lot before posting. But, I'm too lazy to go back and fix it so instead let me offer my apologies for having to wait. In any case, I have not been too pleased with my current zoom lens (Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III), the clarity was consistently disappointing. So it was time to upgrade to something better. I narrowed my choices down to the Sigma 70-200 2.8 APO HSM and the Canon EF 7-200 f/2.8L USM. After much research I found that the Sigma lens performs better than the Canon on my particular camera. Now, I'm not saying that the Sigma is a better overall lens than the "L" series, just that it performs better on my Canon 300D. I read that the Sigma is a bit slower focusing and that it is not as rugged as the "L" lenses but that it is sharper and less prone to back focusing on the Canon 300D. Weird, I would have thought that the Canon lens would work better than any other non-canon lens, go figure! In short, after weighing all the pros and cons I went with the Sigma. And as you'll see in the photos below I really think I made a great choice.

OK, here is my new baby. She looks pretty good on the camera and boy, she really adds some weight to it too. Just under 3 pounds to be exact.

All I can say is WOW! This was shot at 200mm from across the yard (approximately 50 feet) in the shade. I haven't had a chance to play around with it much yet but my initial impression is VERY encouraging.

Here is a 100% crop of the photo above. Incredible! We have another Little League game tomorrow as well as my teams All Star game so I should have plenty of opportunities to test out the new lens. Needless to say, I can't wait!

I would just have to have the kids stand closer
