Got a question on coils for the Excalliburs

I have a local guy that has a Excallibur with the 8 inch coil, but finding it is too small for when he goes down to Florida in the winter. He plans on getting some waterproof connectors from SunRay and wants to know how hard it is to put them on plus which bigger coil he should put on it. Been talking on the BBS 10, the 10 inch Tornado coil or the S 12 of SunRays and wonder which you water hunters would recommend. Most of the detecting will be on the beach.

If he'll be doing mostly wet sand and water's edge, I would recommend the Sunray. If he's going to be more IN the water, I would say the 10" BBS. If he's going to be ALL in the water I would expect the 8" BBS. The 10" Tornado is a great coil but may lack the weight for water work.

I just switch from an Excal 800 to a Excal 1000. I hunt in water up to 5 feet deep and I swear that the 10" BBS coil seems better than the the 8". I hesitated in making the change because I figured the 10" would make it harder to pinpoint. Much to my surprise, it does not seem to make any significant difference as far as pinpointing is concerned and I do believe I am retrieving deeper targets.
