Got a question about the Ace 250

New member
Just wondering about the 9x12 coil for the Ace 250.
I finally got the pin pointing down par and detuning as well.
I wonder about the following:
1. How much more depth.
2. Because of the size of the coil, will the pin point
still be just above the notch?
3. Does one have to dig a slightly bigger hole to be sure you
actually have the target. There have been times with the 6.5x9
that I missed the target. It was not in the hole and it was not in the dirt
I had piled on the cloth next to the hole. I actually had to widen the hole
because it was still in the wall of the hole I was digging.
4. I don't recollect seeing DD coils made for the Ace. Are
there any?

I ask not just for myself, but because a friend of mine uses the Ace when we go out to hunt
on her farm I use my MXT.

Regards
Robert

I would say you can expect at least a couple of inches more depth, depending on your soil conditions. The pinpoint will probably be the same as with the other coil. If it isn't, just find out where it "DOES" pinpoint and carry on. you can eliminate digging a hole all together by probing with a probe. Many detectorists use a probe to find the targets, then work it to the surface with a screwdriver. This is a "must" in nice manicured lawns. And there are no DD coils for the ACE Series Detector at the moment.

This system should work on all concentric coils, (not the DD design) First thing is to put a marker in the center of the forward inner toe. The true center can be made by tracing the coil on a piece of paper, cutting it out, folding it in half then placing it on top of the coil. I put on a happy face as my marker, and drew a straight line on the outer forward toe, just to help with positioning and centering. This setup works best shallow targets. For deeper targets, use this link supplied by Garrett.

You'll get 2-3 more inches in depth. Pinpoints the same as the stock coil. No DD for the 250 yet. You shouldn't have to dig a big hole with either coil. If you have older coins in your area that could be scratched you should pick up a brass or nylon probe to locate your target with and save digging holes.
