I realize this is a photography forum, but felt I would share with you what I have been up to the last few months other than college, work, family, ect. Last summer, after having worked in the fast food industry for a year already, I began to seriously look into finding summer work in the National/State/regional park services. As you may have noticed from my photography threads, I spend a great bit of my free time enjoying the outdoors in places such as Yosemite.

After spending last fall and early 2015 researching what jobs/summer internships are out there for college students who do not yet have their degrees, I decided to confront the State Park Service face to face. I was on a trip up in the Sierras in January before the start of my spring semester of college when I decided to stop by a state park up there to see what jobs I could possibly get in the State Park system. Note, I had no intentions of applying for a job at this particular park because of its distance from where I live, but there is a state park about 10 miles from my home. I spoke with the head park ranger at this park for about an hour, and he was kind enough to not only answer all of my questions about summer employment, but also gave me the ranger who is at my local state parks email. With this information I was able to not only contact the information before applying for the job, but also meet this ranger in person.

I believed that by meeting the rangers face to face I would have an immediate advantage over anyone else who was applying for a position at the local state park. As it turned out, I was right:). I spoke with this second ranger for quite some time, and he appeared quite eager to discuss the job with me and assured me I would be given an interview within the next few weeks.

Flash forward to last Sunday, and I got my interview.:hot: And better yet, I GOT THE JOB!! I will be spending the summer working for the state park service in the outdoors, as I had hoped I would. It just goes to show if you are proactive in searching for a job, even as a college student, you have a much better shot at getting the job you want!

Thats great Roscue , you sound like a young man with a good head on your shoulders we need more like that ..Will watch for your pictures this summer. Congrats on the new job .

Congratulations on your new job. Yes, we'll be waiting for some pictures coming our way.

Congrats! If you've got to work it might as well be at something you want to be doing. Those kinds of jobs can have secondary benefits, too. You can build a social network by interacting with the park visitors. You never know where than can lead later on....
