Vernon in Virginia~Formerly Alaska

I just have to laugh at the eastern seaboard after living in Alaska for 30 years. 6 inches of snow here would close schools, shut down factories, the government becomes dysfunctional, the news stations act as if the second ice age has just landed, not to mention the closing of churches, restaurants, coffee shops, and whole towns... minus Wal Mart. The plow trucks are out, grinding their blades off on wet roads. At worse, you see an occasional puddle of wet slush... just boggles my mind. I know that the New England states can get some serious snow... that's why we did not move to Vermont but instead settled in Virginia.
In Anchorage, Alaska last week on the news, they had so much snow that it was caving in the roofs of houses and buildings. But I'll guarantee you, the school remained open, you could get a cup of coffee anywhere, and people just deal with it. When we first drove to our house we bought in Alaska, there was five feet of snow on the ground; we could not walk the 75 yards to the house through 5 feet of snow, so we ended up rolling to the house... it was the easiest way. Of course, we ended up buying it.

Here is a picture of the front of our house this morning. The snow was falling briskly from the limbs of the trees.
This is a picture of Rosie, my oldest daughter's horse. She seemed happy with the snow, after she got her horse blanket on.
