Got a little thrill.

Tuesday I decided that I HAD to go to the beach for a little detecting therapy. My detecting has been quite limited since DEC 10th when I had the joint at the base of my left thumb removed due to arthritis.

The weather guesser was predicting a high Tuesday afternoon of at least 65 and maybe as much as 70. When I got to the beach at 11 am i thought that it was pretty nice and supposed to warm up even more. So I left my coat in the truck. That was not the brightest move I ever made as during the afternoon the wind picked up blowing off the ocean and It Was Cold.

I worked my way up the beach a the tide receded and picked up a few clad coins. When the tide turned to come back in I started my trek back to my truck as I was 8 1/2 city blocks up the beach.

Working my way back down the beach as the surf kept getting my feet wet I got a tone that I thought was a nickel. Dug the target and spread the sand out with my foot. I could see what i thought was the nickel until I picked it up and found out that it was a ring.

My old eyes would not let me see a hallmark but i was sure that i had something good. Got home and still can not find a hallmark. Ring appears to be a well made piece of jewelry and My Excal gives me the same tones with it as it does with a 14K white gold ring that I have in my treasure box. Since I do not presently have a test kit it will have to wait a while to determine what I have found.

At Least i got a thrill when I found the ring.

Ended my day with my hands so cold that they were beginning to hurt. For my efforts I got one junk ear ring, $2.10 in clad and the unknown quality ring.

It was Great to be able to get out. Yesterday the Occupational Therapist gave me permission to go back to detecting as long as I continued to wear the splint to keep my thumb immobile.

Nice catch and Glad you could slip out, The ring looks good from one shot then the other it looks like a new age metal rings the way the edge is cut...Good Luck and Hope it turns out to be that good Metal >> been 4 weeks for me now..I am itching to get.

I tell you what George, its been inspirational watching you fight through the pain of your surgery!:clapping:

I hope that ring is the real deal, I agree with OBN...the one shot looks like it could be gold on account of the scratches and construction...the danged stainless steel and tungsten rings hit just like gold too though...even an acid kit wont touch stainless, that is to say it wont discolor it, I just drop a bead of acid and dont use the stone anymore on all my gold finds, (which have been few of late):sadwalk:...try to gently press the edge of a knife on it to see if its soft and leaves a groove..fingers crossed for you Brother, you have earned a good score, and if this aint it, one will be along shortly I am sure! !:beers:

George a good bright light and a decent magnifier will often reveal a faint etching that says titanium or stainless just when you are enjoying those great feelings!!

Good luck!!

Found one that looks a bit like yours. This one was 10K. Hope yours is too. As my wife likes to remind me, the best treasure is being able to get out and do it at all. Best of luck on your recovery and keep swinging George.

Your one brave guy working through the discomfort and hopefully you can look at it as physical therapy! Hope the ring turns out as gold!

Way to go George, thats a nice find no matter what metal. Glad to hear you can start getting out again.

Nice find reguardless. Ive gotten so i can tell just by the way it sounds when you drop it on concrete or scratch it on the stone. No markings and like Joe said new age look from the side is never a good sign. BUT you got out and got a curious one.

My Eldest Son showed up Friday morning from Ky. I had things to do downtown and when I left he was sawing logs.

I got home and he had been out to a local ball complex to do some dirt fishing. I saw his finds on the kitchen counter. Counted a couple dollars in clad and a bunch of pennies.

I commented that since he had to drive less than 9 miles round trip that I thought that he at least had made gas money.

He replied: I think I made gas money for the entire trip. He then handed me a 14K 5.0 gram gold ring. I think he did make gas money and some. His first piece of gold and it came out of an area close to my home. I wonder if I missed it the last time I was out there.
