Got a little this am! 3.8g 14k!

Hit the beach this am again, found a cut, got down in there neck deep and commenced to getting pings of old metal. One nickel signal FINALLY turned out to be this old ring! It was just as surprised as I was!
Had a tigereye stone in it, and it was cracked, ring was also crushed, so I popped out the stone, weighed the ring, and tossed it in the scrap pile. The Mudpuppy is having a tough and poor year!, all sanded in, cold weather etc., this ring is only the second gold I've found after covering miles and miles, both of them old gold, the first one earlier this Spring was inscribed '1918'... diligently hitting it everyday none the less, putting in my time and watching for the changes....Running an AtPro on Lake Mich...bad pics, but you get the idea..beach work is some tough duty! A feller has to be in shape, and conditions play a big part to successful gold finds....need a really big storm to take out some sand, or its basically hunting freshies, hoping to get lucky. Its only the inspiration derived from this Forum that keeps a fellow at it! Hunting hard for big gold chains, wish me luck!:please::beers:

All Right Mud!

A lot of detectorists think that beach hunting has to be pretty easy with sand being so easy to dig etc; but the reality is it's hard work. Few beach hunters mention the "miles and miles".........of real estate that you have to detect until you hit that gold target, whether it be a ring or a piece of jewellery etc. It truly is hard work but the rewards can be great after all the blood, sweat and sometimes tears!!!! WTG Mud:thumbup: and I hope you find a lot more gold in your scoop very soon!!!

Thanks guys! I went for another soak and walk about this am...most notable find was a massive fresh nickel spill consisting of 7 nickels and 4 dimes..and a funny story! I'm getting to know the sand cat driver pretty good, we talk nearly everyday, He's out with that big tractor raking the beach of trash early every morning...a few days back I told him how a guy just dont swing blindly along, this is a thinking game! A guy has to look for cooler tracks, stroller tracks, cigarette butts, diapers, beer cans, etc. and especially condom wrappers!...Why condom wrappers? he asked...and I told him, thats night work, clothes are coming off, generally alcohol is involved, and perhaps a skinny dip before or afterwards, ...THE three key things that make for a good drop possibility!

He's thinking about getting a detector, so the other day I let him handle the Pro and showed him signals...this morning he shut his rig down and ran over excitedly to tell me where he saw a couple that had evidently spent the night on the beach, right where they were holed up in a little swale in the dune grass! I went on over there and sure enough, fresh condom wrappers, empty bottles, and that massive nickel spill! No gold, but hey, the signs were right, and He's paying attention and getting the idea anyway!

Once a guy gets to sort of know a beach, theres always a few hotspots on it that consistently hold drops....humans are what we track, creatures of habit, patterns, and preferences, really pretty easy for we tend to be lazy and take the path of least resistance... those off to the side semi secluded areas are where a lot goes down, and straight out in the water from them accordingly....a fellow cant just hunt random, whats the fun in that?:lmfao: Besides, theres just too dang much real estate on this Planet, Life is short, and these coils are so small!

Thought for a few seconds that your were making an X Rated post. Congratulations on the Gold. Hope you get on a gold finding streak.

Nice one MP!! Love those old golds.....and 14k!

Mud, it don't seem fair using a spotter. However, I can't find anything in the rules that says you can't. So for now, I guess I'll allow it.
HHuummm, swale in the dune grass? I'll have to add that to my hunting list!

Once hunting a Lake Erie beach I noticed a log where some would sit. Behind it a path to some wipe paper, carefully picked up a couple of nice spills.
I do mean carefully. Oh yeah found some change around the log too. That's the sit down log I'm talking about.

Yeah, Dancer, Me too!...anytime I see wipe, off to the side of a hiking trail or whatever, its a hotspot alright! Things fall out of pockets easily during that endeavor....

Mud, I didn't even know you were a beach hunter. I thought you were land with the 705 for the most part.
Here in CT I have not tried a beach yet. I only have the 705 digger coil and the 5x10 18.75 khz that I got thinking it'd be my beach coil. I have a brand new stainless scoop in the closet, never used. I really a shy type and read something about in CT you can hunt beaches as long as others aren't there using the beach for other purposes. I don't really get it. They don't open gates to these beaches until after 8:00 am I thought. I live at least an hr from beaches so I just blew it off. Others posted that the CT beaches have been so pounded its not worth it. Some just laugh when you ask about it. HH n GL...Mud

DON'T FORGET TO USE GLOVES!!!!!!!....a great (and amusing)! post Mud and all. Yep, you have to be a bit of a detective and look for the 'evidence' to lead you to the scene!!! I don't mind getting my hands dirty....that said, I'm always conconscious that money in particular is one of the dirtiest things we can handle so please be careful everyone how you handle those coins!!
